1937 (Apr 16) Buttons Ltd cover Sydney to Austria with Kangaroos 2/- maroon solo franking paying 'all-the-way' airmail rate via Athens (b/s) with Greek currency censor cachet on face and '1/1 WIEN 1/29 IV 37 15*/FLUGPOST' b/s, delivered by Vienna pneumatic mail with "102" red crayon route marking, 'TELEGRAPHENAMT WIEN 1/29 IV 37 1540' b/s and 'TA 16 WIEN 102/29 IV 37 1620' Telegraph Office arrival cds on face, couple of minor blemishes. The cover arrived at Vienna airport at 3pm and was delivered before 5pm the same day.

1938-39 Empire Air Mail Scheme cover to GB with KGV 5d tied by 'SHIP MAIL ROOM/6MR39/MELBOURNE' cds. Nothing to look at but this is only the third cover identified as having been carried per 'Capella' which was wrecked on landing at Batavia AAMC #843a, Cat $900. NB: the plane was flying from Australia, not from GB as noted in the AAMC: see Proud 'Intercontinental Airmails Vol II: Asia & Australasia' at page 431 where it is stated 'On 11 March Capella struck a sunken wreck while landing at Batavia...'

1939-45 civil censorship covers with good coverage from all States with lots of variety in the censor labels & cachets including from NSW with boxed 'PERMISSION/GRANTED', Qld with 'RELEASE', Qld with 'PRIVILEGED MAIL/ GOVERNOR OF QUEENSLAND', Tas with rare boxed 'PASSED BY CENSOR/.....', GB-NSW with ' 2 /RETURN/TO/ SENDER', etc, mostly to standard destinations but also to Ceylon, India, Palestine, Ireland, Forces Abroad, and two to Germany each with 'UNDELIVERABLE/RETURN TO SENDER' h/s of Sydney, condition rather mixed but great value at the estimate. 1941 correspondence postcard with 'PRISONER OF WAR SERVICE' cachet sent airmail to England franked 5d Ram, 6d Kookaburra & 2/- Kangaroo tied Sydney '15FE41' cds paying 2/11d rate for carriage by TEAL to New Zealand and PanAm FAM-19 Trans-Pacific and FAM-18 Trans-Atlantic Clipper services, return address of Hay Camp (NSW) internee Markus Strohmayer E76550, Hut 9 Camp 8 Eastern Command, couple of minor blemishes. [The rate was set at half the corresponding 5/10d per oz letter rate. From a Dunera Boy: in May & June 1940 thousands of mostly Jewish refugees from Germany and Austria were interned by the British; some 2500 were subsequently sent to Australia on board the Dunera in squalid conditions where they were housed in the Hay & Tatura internment camps; after their eventual release in late-1942 some returned to the UK but many joined the Army and stayed in Australia after the end of WWII]
