NEW HEBRIDES (British)
1908 Overprints on Fiji 1d vertical pair the lower unit with the Overprint Omitted SG 2a, a little aged, Cat £7500. BPA Certificate (1994). One of the great rarities of Pacific Islands philately and the "Number One" item of the New Hebrides.. The misplacement of the overprint affected all 12 stamps in the fourth row of one sheet. However, it is now believed that at least two pairs have been identified as being from a second sheet. Sir Gawaine Baillie's pair - the upper unit missing the overprint, described as "fresh" - sold for £8625 at auction in January 2007. A similar pair to that item sold for $9200 at our auction of 11/7/2008."
