1930-43 covers to foreign destinations including Austria 1933 at 9d rate & 1935 at 2/- with SMult Wmk 2/-; Czechoslovakia 1930 at 8½d; Denmark 1934 at 1/9d + 3d registration; France Jan 1940 at 5/1d; Germany 1932 at 1/9d + registration, 1937 double-rate 1/9d + 1/8d + 1d late fee, 1938 at 2/1d, and 1941 front only at 5/11d with boxed 'PERMISSION/GRANTED' h/s; Greece 1931 at 8d + 3d registration, 1931 at 2/5d + 3d registration and 1934 at 8d with Greek instructional label affixed; Italy 1943 at 1/- POW rate; Lebanon 1936 at 1/8d; Holland 1934 at 8d with Dutch 10c Postage Due; Dutch Indies 1935 at 9d & 9d + 8d double rate; Switzerland 1934 at 2/1d and 1941 at 5/8d x2 to POWs; and a few others, condition variable.
Worldwide covers & postcards noted France batch of 1860s Napoleon frankings with postmark interest, then mostly post-WWII including 200+ tourist PPCs airmail to Canada, lots of Europe but also British & French Africa, includes registered mail, taxed items, self-adhesives & counter-printed stamps frankings, some postal stationery, a few FDCs and commemorative covers also, lots of thematic interest especially Birds & Animals, condition generally fine. Weighs 10kg.
Mostly 19th Century European group of entires & covers including France noted 1870 to Belgium with Napoleon 10c & 20c tied numeral '2046' of Lille, 1871 Ceres 20c tied 'BP1' lozenge with 'PARIS A BORDEAUX' TPO cds alongside, 1895 registered with Peace & Commerce 40c single, etc; Italy 1850 Roman States 1b black on green tied 'BOLOGNA' on tiny folded entire; Great Britain 1897 to "Gippsland, Victoria" with 5d Jubilee re-directed with 'UP TRAIN' b/s, 1902 to "The Alfred Hospital, Prahran" (Vic) with KEVII 1/- red & green solo franking for quadruple 2½d letter rate plus 2d registration fee, etc, plus a few later, condition mixed but many fine.
COMPANIES: Envelopes & a private letter card all featuring a Map of the businesses comprising France for Hotel Richmond and L'Hotel et le Retaurant du Pavilion, Algeria for MEREG, Indochina for Pharmacie Centrale used in Cambodia, Denmark for Hotel Landsoldaten, Belgium for Matindus and Holland for Romantic Grills, all but the last with an all-over map on the back panel.
PRODUCTS: FRANCE: 1785 partly printed entire to "Toulouze" [sic] with straight-line 'COUVIERS' h/s, affixed within are two fabric samples!, light filing fold at the base. [This is by far the earliest advertising item we have seen that is not simply a list of products. As such, we consider that it is a very significant piece]

PRODUCTS: FRANCE: 1906 envelope for Le Courrier de la Presse featuring mastheads of 'Le Figaro' & 'Le Tempo' pre-addressed to Paris with 'JOURNAL STAMBOUL/...' cachet in blue on the flap and Levant '2/PIASTRES' on Merson 50c tied by 'CONSTANTINOPEL - PERA/POSTE FRANCse' cds, 'R'-in-octagon h/s, a couple of tiny imperfections. Magnifique!
MULTIPLE ADVERTISERS FRANCE: 1870s Formular Postal Card with 10c brown/pink affixed with three adverts on the reverse (inverted relative to the face), unused. Superb!
MULTIPLE ADVERTISERS MULTIPLE ADVERTISERS - FRANCE: 1895 usage of 15c Letter Card overprinted in blue 'Vendue 5 Centimes' (= Sold for 5c) on the face & 'Arrete ministeriel du 12 mai 1887/...' on the reverse, advertisments on both inside panels & on four pages of a 6pp booklet stapled within. Superb!
MULTIPLE ADVERTISERS FRANCE: 1917 'ASSURANCES MUTUELLES/D BOBE/...' envelope promoting the Medieval town of Provins & on the reverse box adverts x19 for Provins traders.
MISCELLANEOUS: FRANCE: Postal Rate calculator comprising a cardboard sleeve with diecut windows through which the rates are exposed when the internal slide is moved left or right. Superb!
Small box full with Great Britain including Navy 'Bluejackets' x5, 'John Bull' with flag, royalty, plus topographicals including some real photo cards, then France, Italy, Gibraltar, Egypt, etc, also greetings, comic, artist & glamour cards with thematic interest, quite a few used, condition variable but many fine. Weighs 1.5kg.
Chromolitho cards for 1897 Brussels International Exposition x10 (three with a creased corner) & 1900 Paris Universal Exposition x9, fine to very fine & mostly unused.
PAPUA: useful bundle with French Mission cards x28, British Mission cards x4, Whitten Bros x2, Australian Museum featuring photos by Frank Hurley x8, etc, generally fine to very fine used under cover or unused.
SUBJECTS - ADVERTISING: Very scarce group from France with Moet et Chandon set of 6 artist cards 'Le pique nique' by L Le Vavasseur, plus F Aninant 'Doloricure' balm, Gitanes cigarettes, & Poeles Godin kitchen stoves (VFU; vendor paid $100), very fine to suberb.
SUBJECTS CYCLING: 1948 Tour de France different official PPCs for the 6th 7th 8th 10th & 12th (in Italy) stages, commemorative datestamps from the relevant towns.
GUADELOUPE: 1882 cover to France with General Series 25c ochre/yellow, and 1900 cover to USA with Tablets 1c 2c pair & 10c pair, both with 'GUADELOUPE/SAINT BARTHELEMY' cds & different 'BASSE TERRE' transit b/s, the first soiled. [In 1784, St Barts was traded by the French to Sweden. Slavery was practised until 1847. In 1878, Sweden gave the island back to France]
INDO-CHINA (Laos): 1905 Peace & Commerce 10c postal card with 'SONG-KHONE/17OCT/..../LAOS' double-ring d/s and 'SAIGON-CENTRAL/COCHIN CHINA' arrival on face. Personal message mentions upcoming trip "...sur un Paquebot port Marseilles". Very rare mail from this small Mekong River office. [See also Lots 651 & 942]
NEW CALEDONIA: 1901 internal cover with 'NCE/15' on 75c brown/yellow tied by one of two very fine strikes of the scarce '.../POUNERIHOUEN' cds in blue, two expertising marks. [Our vendor paid £185]
1849 (Feb 28) stampless entire to "Poste Restante/Rome" with 'KENDAL' b/s in blue & London transit b/s, French 'fleur-de-lis' cachet, Italian 'VIA DI/PT DEAUVOISIDI' cachet & French-pattern 'ROMA' arrival b/s in red. Scarce destination for non-Church mail.
