PICTURE POSTCARDS - Subjects
ARTIST CARDS: British Divided Backs Raphael Tuck Cats "You Will Be Lucky In Love" (soiled on the address-side, used in 1908); Valentine's "Isle of Man: We won't go home till morning" (Dancing, unused) & "Be It Ever So Humble, There Is No Place Like Home" (Rooftop Orchestra, used at Douglas Isle of Man in 1912). Ex Keith Harrison.
POSTCARD CENSORSHIP: 1950s Constance and Bamforth cards by Donald McGill and "Taylor" respectively both with large 'ISLE OF MAN/Postcard Censorship Act 1933/Disapproved for Sale/...' handstamp on the reverse; also 1939 Dudley Buxton original artwork on artboard (170x228mm), the printed Inter-Art Comique card with printer's notations & WB edition with similar notations, similar handstamp in rosine on the reverse & large 'R'-in-circle for "Rejected" on the face; the last stained on the reverse otherwise superb. Ex Dennis Gardiner. [Isn't it amazing to compare with what the boundary-pushers get away with these days?!]

POSTCARD CENSORSHIP: a similar Constance reprinted card by John King ("Rex") "Look what I brought back from my holiday abroad, Dad", plus King's original artwork on artpaper (178x228mm) with the artist's notations & the original card as printed with 'Cleethorpes/Comic Card Censorship/Committee/DIS-APPROVED' handstamp on the reverse. Superb trio!
