MAIL TO UK & EMPIRE
1934 (Dec 4) cover to South Africa endorsed "Australia-Egypt/and Egypt-South Africa" with rare franking of KGV 1/4d greenish blue horizontal pair tied by superb 'AIR MAIL/BRISBANE QLD' cds, the 1d short-payment was apparently detected only upon arrival where 'T/2D'-in-circle h/s & Postage Due 2d added. There is a curious use of boxed 'PAR AVION/JUSQUA...' h/s suggesting air transit was only as far as Cairo. However, the Cairo b/s is dated 22DEC & the Durban cds is 29DEC which seems too quick for surface mail from Egypt. [Breckon and Walker both give "December 1934" as the starting date for the regular Australia-England route & rates. This cover of 4th Dec suggests the starting date was actually 1/12. The all-air rate to South Africa was 2/9d]
TO EUROPE ASIA & AFRICA
1937 (Feb 12) cover to Germany endorsed "Australia-Italy" with Kangaroos 9d violet & SA Centenary 1/- green tied by superb 'COOGEE/NSW' cds, superb 'The Mission Procurator/Waltham St, Coogee' h/s at lower-left, jusqu'a bars applied across the airmail label at Rome (connection from Singapore) & forwarded to destination by surface. The illustration is on the next page]
1937 1936 (Feb 19) double-rate cover to Germany endorsed "By Air Australia-Greece-Germany" with KGV 4d olive & Kangaroos 2/- maroon pair tied by Sydney cds, blue & black/white registration label, Athens transit & superb 'BERLIN-/LICHTERFELDE 1' arrival b/s. [The rate was 2/1d + 2/- for the second Żoz + 3d registration]
