NEW SOUTH WALES - Postal History
1898(Oct 26) commercial cover from New Caledonia with 25c black/rose x2 & unusual '.../NOUMEA' cds, largely superb strike of the rare boxed 'DETAINED on BOARD SHIP' h/s on the face & Sydney arrival b/s of OC31/98, vertical fold & ironed-out wrinkles. A rare & impressive marking. [In Sydney Views Nov 2016, Brian Peace records only three examples, used between 1900 & 1912. This cover is therefore the earlest recorded usage]
1903-11 Commonwealth Periodwith a selection of 'COMMONWEALTH' 9d including Crown/A mint Type A-B Pairs x8 (unlisted by Gibbons & the ACSC as se-tenant pairs) 1907-11 Crown/A to 2/- x6 (two mint) including ½d used block of 6 (must be rare), 1d Imperf strip of 4 (creased), 'OS' punctures to 1/- x5 including 1d with Double 'OS', Three-Perf Strips with ½d block of 30 with Grossly Misplaced Perforations, 1d blocks of 9 & 27 and a used strip of 3, 2d corner block of 9, 4d block of 30 (last two columns are Die II), 5d corner block of 6 & 1/- strip of 3, etc, condition a bit variable, Cat £5000+.

1903 'COMMONWEALTH' V/Crown9d brown & blue SG 265 with fancy 'Specimen' handstamp applied by BSAC/Rhodesia, large-part o.g. Rare: absent from Bill McCredie's exceptional collection. Ex Ron Butler, Lionheart and Bernie Manning: acquired at the Prestige auction of 13.6.2009 for $719. [The handstamp is known colloquially as the 'Frankland' type]

1906-10 'COMMONWEALTH' Crown/A9d brown & blue Perf 11 Type B BW #Q45B (SG 285), well centred, a couple of minor blemishes, light 1911 cds cancel, Cat $3000 (£800). Rare & underrated. [Acquired at the Prestige auction of 17.2.2012 for $2990]
PUNCTURED 'OS':1906-10 'COMMONWEALTH' Crown/A Perf 11 9d brown & blue Type B ACSC #Q45Bb, well centred, indistinct cancellation, Cat $1500. Ex Bernie Manning: acquired at the Prestige auction of 13.6.2009 for $1667.
1886-96 'POSTAGE & REVENUE'Perf 10 2/6d & 10/- x2 all with fake cancels, Perf 11½-12½ 5/- & £1 postally used, 2/6d x2, 5/- x2, 10/-, 15/- x3 & £1 x2 all CTO (some with large-part o.g.), and official reprints seven values to 50/- with 'SPECIMEN' overprint, generally fine to very fine, Cat £1380 plus the 'SPECIMEN' group & the 'duds'.
1886-96 'POSTAGE & REVENUE'Perf 10 £1 and Perf 11½-12½ 5/- 10/- 15/- (CTO) £1 & £2, various postal cancellations, Cat £1190.
1886-96 'POSTAGE & REVENUE'Perf 10 2/6d to £20 SG 195-208 all with 12½mm 'SPECIMEN' overprint, strong colours, a few characteristic minor gum-bends, large-part o.g., Cat £1300. Very scarce: these are the original issue - excluding the £5 brown not issued in Perf 10 - not the 1891 reprints that were specially printed for distribution to UPU members.

1902-04 Thin 'POSTAGE'range on Hagners with Perf 11½-12½ mint to £1 (creased) & used to 10/- x2 (one CTO) including 8d with 'WC/R' perfin, 1/- brown with 'POSTAGE' & 'ONE SHILLING' in Brown-Red ACSC #S30A (SG 275c, creased) & 1/- U/R corner pair with Sheet Number '1d 689743' in Red, and Perf 12 mint to 9d x4 including a pair, generally fine to very fine, Cat £3500+.
1902-04 Thin 'POSTAGE'Perf 11½-12½ 1/- brown with 'POSTAGE' & 'ONE SHILLING' in Brown-Red ACSC #S30A (SG 275c), faint vertical bend, indistinct cancellation, Cat $2000 (£1100). Chris Ceremuga Certificate (2009). [The ACSC states this was probably the first printing & "Postally used is scarcer than mint"]
1904-12 Thick 'POSTAGE' Crown/SArange on Hagners with mint including 10d x4, 1/- x4, 2/6d x2 & 5/- x2 and used including 2/6d x3 & 5/- x6 (one with 'TARCOOLA' squared-circle in violet); Crown/A with mint including 3d yellow-olive & deep olive Perf 12, 6d U/R corner pair with Sheet Number 6d 4740' in Red, 8d L/L corner block of 6 with minor Doubling of 'EIGHT PENCE', 2/6d bright violet x2 & pale violet x2 and 5/- x2, used including 8d Value Closer, etc, Cat £1750+.

SINGAPORE:1948 Silver Wedding $5 brown SG 32 strip of 3 with full Bradbury Wilkinson Imprint & Plate Number '1a', excellent centring, very minor toning, Cat £330++. A very scarce imprint piece.
