Fascinating bundle with fire stations, equipment & firemen mostly from America plus a couple from New Zealand & South Africa, other overseas cards including South Africa "Cyanide Works", WWI "Australian Troops March through London" & real photo of a biplane endorsed "AFC [Australian Flying Corps] Halton Camp, Wendover", better Australian Cards including "Australian Ladies Pipe Band on Tour of the World", "The Chapman-Alexander Mission Party 1912-13", "Australia Day July 27th 1917" (Nerriga NSW) & some attractive Kerry cards, "RMS Australia on Fire, Corsair Reef" (Vic) and "Wreck of Motor Liner Malabar...Long Bay 3.4.31" (NSW), etc, condition variable but many are fine to very fine. World War I group apparently all collected by or from one Australian soldier with strength in Egypt including two impressive panorama types (rolled-up but can be flattened) & three booklets of cards plus another from Belgium, one datelined "Christmas 1915/Gallipoli", also England Wales & Ireland, a few "silks" including two with the original inserts, etc, condition variable.

HUMOUR: British World War I postcards with original patriotic cartoons by Fred Gothard, all initialled "FG" & with 'Original Sketch by FG' handstamp on the address sides, a little aged.
MILITARY - VARIOUS: Mostly pre-World War II group of mostly British naval ships with many real photo & artist types, also HMS "Powerful" - the Australian Flag Ship - x2, on-board training & signalling, several submarines including "Submarine EII Returning from the Dardanelles", portraits of Admiral Jellicoe x3, Admiral Patey - the Australian Commander in Chief - & Captain Glossop of HMAS "Sydney", etc, condition variable but generally fine to very fine. MILITARY Album with a mostly French collection of World War I cards focusing on war damage to towns & buildings, with bilingual captions (100 approx); also some Waterloo subjects & a few World War II; then Australian War Memorials in Canberra Sydney & Melbourne x47; and "moderns" including WWI German Uniforms x24; etc, condition of the earlier material is variable otherwise generally fine to very fine used or unused. MILITARY WORLD WAR I: Interesting group of mostly British cards including Nurse Edith Cavell x3 (one printed on material), "The Paravane...for Destroying Hun Mines", "Shakespeare Hut: Lounge enlarged for Concert", "Hartlepools [sic] Bombarded by Germans Dec 16th 1914", humorous group including a few rib-ticklers & a couple of Australian-related subjects, generally fine to very fine.
NOVELTY: "Instalment Cards" from Great Britain "Progressive Courtship" set of 4 (used in 1904); Austria "Flower Delivery Boy" set of 8 (used in 1899); and Germany "Mountain Village" set of 4 (used in 1898), embossed "Valentine" set of 4 (unused) & World War I "Weltkrieg 1914-16" set of 10 (three used from German Field Post Offices), fine to very fine. Ex Keith Harrison. [Basically simple jigsaw puzzles; placed in order, the individual cards create a larger picture. See also Lots 461, 504 & 609]
POLITICS & PROPAGANDA: Mounted group with US Presidents, UK Prime Ministers, French Ministers x3, Benito Mussolini & Adolf Hitler, election cards, in memoriam cards, French & German 1898-99 Affaire Dreyfus x12, World War I group including Nurse Edith Cavell x4, & a group of British & French satirical anti-German cards, condition variable but generally fine to very fine; also a range of American moderns from JF Kennedy to George W Bush (not included in the count or estimate). Superior group from NSW with Agriculural Show types for Sydney Bega & Yass and "Opening of Sydney Harbour Bridge"; South Australia with "A Fire Alarm - Racing to the Scene" & Trans-Australian Railway "Meeting of Tracklayers from East & West"; Victoria "Proposed Anglican Church at Meredith", squatter & horse living in a tree stump!!, 1934 Frankston Scout Jamboree multi-response type, Summerscales "Eureka Monument, Ballarat"; etc, & a few WWI including "Morning Parade No 16 AGH Mont Park" & a group of coalers aboard HMAS "Australia"; several are real photo types; also scenic Postal Cards x13 including 1911 Coronation 1d x3 CTO & Queensland 1d "Botanic Gardens" (tennis court), etc; condition a bit mixed, many are unused.
Wide-ranging group with lots of real photo types including "Swaggers Camp on the river", "A Whale at Eden" (men sitting on the carcass) & "RMS Mariposa Passing under Sydney Harbor [sic] Bridge", many Outback scenes including a few superb Kerry shots, also a few Gold Mining, 1905 5d Stamp Jubilee Card (unused), Tasmanian 1908 Franco-British Exhibition "A Prize Merino Ram" (unused), "Federal Labour [sic] Party: Second Parliament", World War I including eight "silks" (one with the original insert card) in above-average condition, Offshore Islands including Thursday x5, Norfolk x2, King x3, Phillip x2 & Lord Howe, etc, condition variable but many are fine to very fine. PATRIOTISM: Goldsmith & Cohen "Cable Received Aug 7 1914 - [Britain] gratefully accepts the offer...to send a force of 20,000 men to this Country" with six inset portraits, unused. [Not previously seen by us]

Unidentified towns & buildings, mostly Kerry Aboriginal cards, real photo types including "Randwick: The Lawn" with an enormous crowd, Horse & Carts for Milk Deliveries or 'EXPRESS PARCEL DELIVERY', 1907 "The Sculling Championship of the World" etc, also photographs including terrific Sydney Morning Herald WWII shot of Soldiers Taking a Break, condition variable but most are fine to very fine. Group of historical real photos with WWI "Portion of Ward Military Hospital Enoggera", a terrific but unidentified Military Parade, 1926 Pupils at Coorparoo School, 1928 ABC Trans-Pacific Flight with photos of Kingsford Smith & Ulm with facsimile signatures, etc, also photographs including 1928 Bert Hinkler's arrival at Bundaberg & his plane being paraded thru Brisbane, Carlton VFL Footballers in Queensland x3, etc, generally fine to very fine, also two Stereo Cards of Queensland Floods (one almost fine, the other poor). MILITARY - WORLD WAR ONE: 1916 real photo of Mitcham Military Camp (SA) featuring dozens of tents, chopping wood, underground oven & a group of bare-chested soldiers on a makeshift raft, a couple of minor inkspots, used under cover. One of the most appealing WWI Military Camp cards we have seen. Ex Bronte Watts. [The writer, Sapper WW Evans, says "...Tell me which you think is me..."]
1916 real photo of Soldiers in Fancy Dress apparently promoting Camp Theatricals, datelined on the back "Wangaratta 22.10.16" & addressed to "...D Campany 8th Battalion" probably at Seymour Military Camp, a trifle aged. Ex Shirley Jones.
