Box of mostly pre-decimal commercial covers the majority to overseas destinations including Brazil, Italy, Hawaii, Ireland, Hungary, Dutch Indies & Sabah, with numerous airmail covers including a few Clipper items & a good range of rates to 9/- including 5d Empire Air Rate, 1/2d Thylacine on PPC to Germany etc, a number of unusual make-ups including with se-tenant issues, many WWII censor covers with variety in the censor labels & cachets, 1945 to GB with rare Queensland red & blue airmail label, 1953 7d Aerogramme uprated with 3d Wheat, 1934 illustrated advertising cover for Warwick Presbyterian Boarding Schools (Qld), condition rather mixed.

Huge ledger album of covers from family correspondence with WWII Camps including 'MIL PO DARWIN No 1' x3, 'RAAF PO GERALDTON', 'PUCKAPUNYAL/MIL PO VIC' Krag machine cancels x2, inwards to Caulfield Mil PO with 'NO TRACE/CAULFIELD RACE COURSE' (not previously seen by us), handpainted with '1/AFCC' h/s used in the NT, two philatelic covers with 'VICTORIA/LABUAN' linotype cancels, a few Postage Due covers, inwards mail including five from GB reused with Red Cross address labels, 1940s unclaimed covers from Victorian POs including with 'PAID AT/RELIEF' cds (rated RRR) & 'POSTMASTER/BOX HILL' (RRRR; plus unrecorded rubber b/s), some mostly unused KGVI postal stationery, condition rather mixed. An interesting and original lot.

1941 unusual size envelope (185x197mm) to USA with 'CALIFORNIA/CLIPPER' h/s & rare franking of Robes £1 block of 4 (a few faults) + 4d Koala & 2/- Roo tied by Sydney cds of 24JY41, minor wrinkles. One of the highest-rated World War II airmail covers we have recorded, making this a wonderful item for the airmail enthusiast or the collector of KGVI issues. [NB: this cover does fit on a standard album page]
The Clipper rate to the USA was 4/8d for the first ½oz + 4/7d for each successive ½oz. Total postage of £4/2/4d = 988d. Postage for a letter weighing between 8½ & 9oz was 4/8d + 4/7d x17 = 991d, indicating underpayment of 3d (or an unlikely overpayment of 4/4d). [NB: Kevin Nelson's entire packet wrapping to GB with Robes 10/- strip of 5 & £1 strip of 4 sold at the Prestige auction of 27.11.2010 for $7187]

Box with WWI POW covers from Trial Bay x2, Holdsworthy or Liverpool Camps, then WWII bundle from one correspondence (most with the stamps torn-off), and fifteen mostly OHMS covers from POW Camps including 1946 from Bridgetown, Kununoppin, Northam, Quairading & Tambellup all in WA, condition variable.
1945 usage of British 'FORCES/LETTER' formular aerogramme from GB with KGVI 1½d only, to "Section 301/RAF/Ceylon Air Force" based on Cocos. Rare inwards mail.
SOMALI COAST: 1942 'FRANCE LIBRE' Overprints 5fr 10fr & 20fr SG 340-2 upper-left corner blocks of 4 with engine-turning in the margins, unmounted, Cat £700+. Pristine!

LABUAN 1945 two commercial covers with Australian 3d purple-brown 1) to Melbourne with very fine 'FIELD POST OFFICE/13JY45/037' cds; 2) to London with largely very fine strike of the scarce 'VICTORIA/LABUAN' linotype cancel, addressed on the back from Miri (Sarawak). Rare pair.
NORTH BORNEO: 1941 (Apr 2) North Borneo Trading Co cover to Singapore with 8c Map & 2c 'WAR/TAX' Overprint tied by 'SANDAKAN' cds, triangular 'PASSED FOR - TRANSMISSION/NORTH BORNEO' cachet in red, a little aged.
NORTH BORNEO: 1941 (Aug 29) commercial cover from Singapore to Sandakan with North Borneo 'PASSED BY CENSOR' label (severed; upper-half only) tied on both sides by the very rare boxed 'PASSED BY/ 16 /CENSOR/NORTH BORNEO' h/s in red, minor blemishes. [Morenweiser at page 102 states only one cover with a complete censor label is recorded, and two with half-labels. This is a third example]

MALACCA: 1942 Boxed Handstamp in Rosine (across Four Stamps) on Straits Settlements 12c ultramarine SG J51 marginal block of 6 (3x2) from the left of the sheet, minor characteristic tropicalisation, unmounted, Cat £840++ (as singles). [Because the handstamp is struck partly in the margin, the left-hand impression is about 90% complete]

MALACCA: 1942 Boxed Handstamp in Rosine on Malayan Postal Union Postage Dues 12c dull blue SG JD15 block of 8 (2x4), minor characteristic tropicalisation, five units appear to be unmounted, Cat £7200++ (as singles). A very rare & desirable multiple. [Remarkably, the upper vertical pairs bear the right-half & left-half of the handstamp but the lower block of 4 is struck with a complete impression of the handstamp!]
GENERAL ISSUES: 1942 Rounded-Boxed Handstamp on Straits Settlements 15c ultramarine SG J154 Plate Number '1' corner block of 8 (2x4) from the lower-right of the sheet, the fourth unit only with the Handstamp Inverted, characteristic tropicalisation & some gum-scuffing but most units are apparently unmounted. An unlisted error.
GENERAL ISSUES: 1942 'DAI NIPPON/...' Overprints on Perak 8c scarlet block of 4 with the Overprint Omitted from the Right-Hand Units SG J248c, unmounted, Cat £800+ (as two pairs).
GENERAL ISSUES: 1942 Surcharges on Perak '2 cts.' on 5c as SG J273 block of 4 with the Surcharge Misplaced to the Base resulting in it being Almost Completely Omitted from the upper units, on philatelic cover. An unlisted error.
GENERAL ISSUES: 1942-44 Kanji Overprints on Selangor '6 Cts.' on 5c brown with the Overprint Doubled SG J293c, unmounted, Cat £650.
