5 10 20 and 50 Operation Bernhard Forgeries uniface, full set comprising 5 Peppiatt, '1935 30 March', serial 'A/169 89838', 10 Peppiatt, 1935 May 16' serial ' 'K/147 65211', 20 Catterns,'1931 Dec 15' serial '45/M 88975' with Watermark Registration Notch at right, and 50 Peppiatt, '1934 June 20' serial '51/N 40415', Roland Pieles 2018 Certificates of Authenticity. 'Operation Bernhard' was a plot by the Nazis during WWII to destabilise the British Pound by flooding England with forged notes. Printed in Sachsenhausen by Jewish prisoners, the notes passed inspection by the Bank of England in 1942. (Qty 4)
