1890cover endorsed "From Gunner J Woolley RMA [= Royal Marines Artillery] HMS Curacoa Australia" & counter-signed "IMRG" (Lieut Ian MR Grant), to London with South Australian 2d tied by 'SHIP MAIL ROOM/ JY9/90/SA - S.AUST' duplex, 'LONDON-SE/ 10 /AU13/90' arrival b/s in red, repaired flap fault. Rare: the only sailor's letter from South Australia that we have offered. Ex Gerald Ellott: acquired at the Prestige auction of 16.12.2011 for $3450. [The illustration is above Lot 435]

231 (2):Second Type (Vertical Bars) largely fine strike on 2d violet. Rated RRRR. [The Military Encampment markings were in the nature of "relief" markings, being used at the various Easter Encampments etc]
Covers accumulationincluding some Australia with commercial mail, FDCs and used postcards, noted New Hebrides 1942 parcel piece with 'PASSED 1/HM CUSTOMS MELB' cds, Germany range including WWII Feldpost & Occupations, GB 1856 to Saxony with QV 6d and 'AUS ENGLAND PER AACHEN' cds, USA batch of QSL "Ham Radio" cards, sure to be pickings here even though condition quite mixed.
Box of cards with good Australian selection with real photo types including of Maryborough (Vic) School Carnival & of Carlton Football Team (creased; names written on reverse), advertising from Western Australia, etc, also good Military/WWI selection from GB Germany & elsewhere including naval subjects & political cartoons, Pacific Islands including Tonga x4, Singapore x12, Glamour including "Gibson Girls" x14 + similar hand-drawn card from "Cicero" to "Brutus" with a very gay message, Louis Wain Cats x2, Napoleon x16, etc, condition variable.
GREAT BRITAIN:Military mostly real photo types of Naval Operations x30 including 1921 Royal Visit HMS "Renown" group with handwritten captions on the back, etc; generally fine to very fine & mostly unused; also 1982 "Falklands Task Force" x51 of 63.
1925 'Grand Military/Searchlight Tattoo' leaflet (176x252mm) with 'DELIVERED BY AIR OVER CALCUTTA/ 31DEC25/10AM' cachet & endorsed "Certified genuine autographed copy". Only 12 copies were signed.
JOHORE:1941 formular aerogramme with 'POSTAGE PAID/12 CENTS/JOHORE' handstamp in red and 'AUSTRALIA.' printed at base, to Queensland from "QX16402, Pte R Bell, D Coy 2/26th Batn, Malaya" with 'AUST BASE PO/20DE41/26.' cds used at Johore Bahru and violet censor cachet, minor blemishes. Issued 13.12.1941 & in use for only 7 weeks before the Japanese invasion.
1926-34 Admiralsundenominated master die proof for the high values in black on wove stock (87x114mm) with uncleared surrounds & Implement Number '10781' (?, reversed) at the top. A dramatic proof.
SOUTH AFRICA - (Provinces)
BOER WAR:1900 (May) cover to a soldier with the 2nd Queensland Contingent during the Boer War with 2d x3 tied by 'R'-in-oval cancels & 'REGISTERED/BRISBANE' cds alongside, Durban transit of 26JU/00 & Capetown arrival b/s of 30JU00, British 'ARMY BASE/AU10/00/CAPETOWN' b/s in red, boxed 'GONE - NO ADDRESS' h/s in violet & endorsed "Returned/to Australia", a little soiled. [Mail to the Australian troops during the Boer War is extremely elusive. This is the first example we have seen from Queensland, and only the second registered cover from any of the Colonies]
