KING EDWARD VII
1878 (Sep 9) cover in the hand of King Edward VII - then Prince of Wales - to "His Excellency/Sir Charles L Wyke KCB/British Legation/Copenhagen" with Line Engraved ½d Plate 14 & 1d Plate 192 pair tied by 'LONDON-SW - SW/48' duplex, initialled "AE" at lower-left & with embossed '[crown]/ AE /HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE' crest on the flap, poor Copenhagen arrival b/s, flap fault (clear of the crest) & minor staining. With the enclosed seven-pages letter on matching notepaper with 'Marlborough House/Pall Mall SW' imprint, wholly written/scrawled & signed by "Albert Edward". He states "...Alas! Windhorst & Co have done all the mischief, and it cannot be undone. By the D[uke] of Cumberland acknowledging the German Empire he in no ways gives up his rights to the Crown of Hannover..." Charles Lennox Wyke was British Ambassador to Denmark between 1867 & 1881.
