1915 cover to Sydney with scarce combination franking of '1d.' on 5pf SG 17 with NWPI ½d pair & First Wmk 2d all tied by 'RABAUL/27AU15' cds in blue-black, mss registration endorsement & straight-line 'PASSED BY CENSOR' h/s with "WHP" initials in red, Sydney transit & Edgecliff arrival b/s, two vertical folds at left. [NB: the 2d has the major plate flaw White Scratch from 'T' of 'POSTAGE' through Map to Value Circle BW #5o]

Selection including Roos abc strips First Wmk 2d & 1/- and Second Wmk 2d 6d & 9d, KGV 1d on 5d *, 1d carmine Die II block of 4 SG 103b unused, 1d violet with Flaw Under Neck used, plus Perf OS 2d to 4d SG O18-20 used, mixed condition, Cat £900. (Qty 37)
1915-16 Overprints on KGV ½d as SG 65 but in an unusual pale olive-green shade, type c, very lightly mounted. Unlisted by Gibbons: however, Rosenblum mentions an "olive" shade. [With a normal emerald shade for comparison]

1915-16 Overprints on KGV 1d red SG 67 complete forme of 30 from the upper-half of Pane V [L1-30] before appearance of Damaged Right Frame at Base  but confirmed by BSAP-listed varieties including Roller Flaws at L/R of R/H Value Tablet [9/15/21] & Notch in Top Frame at Right , Hollow Stop after 'W'  & Large Stop after 'ISLANDS.' , well centred, most units unmounted, Cat £210++.
1915-16 Overprints on KGV 1d red SG 67 Fourth Setting with Large Stops complete forme of 30 from the lower-half of Pane VIII [R31-60] with White Scratch behind Roo , White Corner Dot at L/R , Roo's Tongue  & Run 'N' (Second State) , well centred, a couple of minor gumside blemishes but most units unmounted, Cat £210++.
1915-16 Overprints on KGV 1d red Die II SG 67c abc strip, unmounted, Cat £440+ (mounted). [Tim Rybak's similar unmounted strip sold for $1092]
1915-16 on Kangaroos First Wmk 2d to 1/- SG 73-81 including 3d shade SG 76c abc strips, the 1/- strip is very fragile, unmounted, Cat £1920+ (mounted). BPA Certificate (1970) for the SG 76c strip (as a block of 6, as the then SG 77). (Qty 7 strips)

1918 'One Penny' Surcharges on KGV 5d & on Roo 1/- SG 100-101 abc strips, unmounted, Cat £760++ (mounted). Very scarce. [Tim Rybak's strips - only the b units unmounted - sold for $1437]
1918-23 Fifth Setting on KGV 4d orange SG 104 Plate 2 block of 9 with Line through 'FOUR PENCE' [2R12] & Horned Emu [2R17], the six lower units - including the varieties - are unmounted, Cat £850++ (mounted); ACSC Cat $1895+.

'N.W./PACIFIC/ISLANDS' Overprints - Postal History
1915 Chinese merchant's cover to "c/- Rud Wahlen/Maron" with NWPI ½d x2 tied to the reverse by 'RABAUL/ 27OC15' cds. [Maron is the most isolated outpost of New Guinea, a tiny island situated 300km NNE of Wewak and 180km WNW of Manus. The German post office opened only in 1911 & was closed by the Australian occupation force. Outgoing mail is scarce; inwards mail is rare. Rudolf Wahlen acquired plantations on Maron from "Queen Emma" Coe]
1916 cover to a German on "Matty Island/Wuwulo" & endorsed "via Maron!", with NWPI 1d red tied by 'RABAUL/ 5OC16' cds, largely very fine strike of the scarce 'Passed Censor/RABAUL' h/s in violet, minor blemishes. [Matty Island or Wuwulo - now Wuvulu - is even more remote than Maron, lying 250km further west & 170km NNE of Aitape. There are only two villages, Auna (= sunrise) & Onna (= sunset), a mere 3½km apart!]
1917 registered cover to NSW with 2d Roo & 5d KGV both type c tied by Rabaul cds, German-type registration label & oval 'THE TREASURY/RABAUL' cachet in violet, Sydney transit & 'PETERSHAM/NSW' arrival b/s, central vertical fold & minor wrinkling.
