Beattie (Hobart) mostly real photo cards , predominantly landscapes - including some of coastal islands - & topographical features but including "Coal Mines Station from Mt Lepus", panoramas of Hobart (adapted for the 1899 2d stamp) & Saltwater River, Catholic School Students (banner states "God Bless the Pope"), Buildings at Eaglehawk Neck, lighthouses etc, some have one or more people to provide a sense of scale, all attributed by the distinctive tiny captions or a Beattie handstamp/print on the reverse, generally very fine to superb unused. John Watt Beattie has been credited with "shaping the accepted visual image of Tasmania". Appointed Tasmania's Official Photographer in 1896, he worked tirelessly to promote tourism on the island. He is to Tasmania as Charles Kerry is to NSW, & is considered by many to be the more technically proficient photographer. (Qty 76)
