COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA
Box of mostly pre-WWII loose stamps & pieces many from parcels & with several incomplete 'PARCELS POST' labels one of 1913 with First Wmk 1/- Roo (weep!!), other pieces noted with 6d Engraved & probably First Wmk 2/- Roo (weep again!), lots of KGV Penny Reds, etc. This material has never before been on the market. We expect it is completely unpicked for varieties and postmarks. [See also Lot 368]

1946 3/7d (used) & 5/10d (unmounted mint) Myer cutouts plus 5/10d complete label for 'DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE/VICTORIA' ACSC #PL4B with 'MO/76' at lower-left, large-part o.g., Cat $1650.

C of A - Postal History
1913 usage of 'TASMANIA/INTERSTATE/PARCEL POST' black/pink label with rare combination franking of First Wmk 1/- (Cat $1250 on cover) & Tasmanian 2d tied by a largely complete strike of the enormous 'CHIEF PARCELS OFFICE/JUL 7 1913/HOBART' datestamp (rated RR) in violet, minor blemishes.
1923-40 complete 'PARCELS POST' labels including eleven different editions, various frankings mostly with Roos to 2/-, several with scarce parcel roller cancels, condition variable with some creasing but all highly presentable. The basis for an interesting collection.
1939-45 airmail covers including to Holland at 9d rate repaired with Dutch labels, to Hong Kong x5 variously at 9d 11d x2 1/- & 1/6d, to New Guinea serviceman at 4d, to Northern Ireland at 9d endorsed "across Canada", to Sweden at 7d for airmail from London only, to Swiss Red Cross at 5/9d with 5/- Robes, to UK at 11/8d with 10/- Robes and registered at 6/1d with KGVI 3d x3 & 1/4d x4, to USA at 4/8d per PanAm with Hong Kong censor, also surface rates to USA with Clarrie King illustrated cover to USA with KGV '3½d' on 3d surcharge and at 1d printed matter, plus 1947 KGVI 5/10d Myer Emporium parcel label airmail to England (aging marks), variety of censor markings, condition mixed but many fine.
1946 'PARCEL POST/Form of Customs Declaration' red on buff form PP8 to England with small Parcel Post label of Perth, 1d 6d Kookbuarra & 9d Platypus block of 4 tied by Perth parcel roller cancel paying 3/7d rate for 7lb parcel under the 'Food for Britain' program, contents listed as fruit cake, stew, soup, custard powder, jelly & beef extender (yum!), some edge faults not affecting stamps.
1964 large parcel piece (156x215mm) with remarkable franking of Arms £1 block of 6 (a rare multiple even off-cover) and Navigators 10/- strips of 3 & 5 tied by 'FREMANTLE/24AP64/WEST-AUST' cds, damaged in transit with 'FOUND/OPEN/IMPERFECTLY SEALED' label & 'Repaired by/Postal/Department' "sticky" tape.
1984 'PARCELS' tag with two different 'SAL' [Surface Air Lifted] labels and Paintings $10 Coming South x3, $5, $2 x2 and 55c Marine Life tied 'LALOR/25SE84/VIC-AUST' d/s, another similar tag plus two pink 'PARCEL MAIL/SYDNEY/ OVERNIGHT/COUNTRY/(Including Air Parcels)' tags and a plain one each with $10 Paintings frankings (three as pairs) in combination with other values, condition generally fine.
RAILWAY STAMPS: c.1950s Russell & Sons Dairy Engineers (Toowoomba) complete parcel tag to Warwick with 1d blue & 10d purple both inscribed 'TOOWOOMBA' & Railway Numeral '55' cancels. A scarce survivor.

SOUTH AUSTRALIA - Postal History
POSTMARKS: 1927 parcel piece with KGV SMult Wmk Perf 14 1d green x20 tied by multiple strikes of the rare boxed 50x31½mm 'PARCEL POST/24NOV1927/ADELAIDE SA' d/s (#CRR-2; LRD) in violet, minor defects. ["Handheld Postmarks of South Australia" records one strike only, with approximate dimensions]
TASMANIA - Postal History
1871 large piece (200x143mm) from a registered parcel to Kent with remarkable Three-Issue franking (faults) of VDL Imperf 4d & Perf 10 1d x2 and 'TASMANIA' Imperf 6d & 1/- (cut-to-shape) all tied by BN '63' of New Norfolk, private 'BOURNBANK/Parish of/Wellington' h/s & 'N NORFOLK/22 4 71' postmaster's provisional h/s, sloping 'TOO-LATE' h/s applied at Hobart, a few repaired edge-tears & parts of the address label removed with the registration ribbon. Endorsed "Printed Book with Photographs..." & signed "Molesworth Jeffery" which permitted mailing at the concessional rate for a "book packet" + 6d registration. Only six items recorded bearing the 6d registration rate that applied between 1871 & 1880. Ex Randall Askeland, Patrick Reid & David McNamee.
DUTCH NEW GUINEA: 1962 Parcel Card sent airmail to Merauke with Juliana 25c red pair, 1g violet and 5g green x3 tied 'HOLLANDIA NOOPDWIJK/17 III 62' cds and '66' parcel label alongside, plus Acknowledgement of Delivery card with 'MERAUKE/19.3.62' arrival d/s still attached by rusty paperclip, otherwise fine condition. Scarce survivor.
NEW GUINEA - Mandated Territory Issues
1932-34 Undated Birds 2d 3d 5d 6d & 2/- to £1, 1939 Bulolo 5d & £1, all in horizontal pairs, Cat £760+.
1939 Bulolo Airs 4d 5d and 1/- to £1 SG 217 218 & 221-5 blocks of 4, some minor staining/aging consistent with having been removed from bullion tags, all with 'BULOLO' cds of various dates, Cat £3400+ as single sets. Used blocks are rare.

NEW GUINEA - Postal History
1935 (Mar 15) gold bullion parcel tag with rare and remarkable franking of Undated Airs 3d, 2/- marginal pair, 5/- & £1 block of 6 (the fourth unit damaged when affixed; the right-hand block of 4 is very fine) affixed to both sides & tied by 'WAU' cds. Ex Tom Frommer: acquired at Mossgreen on 4.4.2017 for $1800.
1935 (Nov 18) gold bullion parcel tag with rare and remarkable franking of Silver Jubilee 1d, Undated Airs 5/- & Bulolo £5 emerald tied by 'WAU' cds, registration cachet on the reverse, remarkably fine for such an item. Ex Tom Frommer: acquired at Mossgreen on 4.4.2017 for $3840. [The rate was 2d per 1oz letter rate x157 + 3d per ½oz airmail surcharge x314 + 3d registration + 2d late fee for registered articles = £5/5/1d. The only other £5 franking known to us is a similar large-part tag franked £5/4/3d Ex Ken Kutz, the current whereabouts of which is unknown]
1938 (c.) large packet piece (247x170) endorsed "Contains Supper Cloth value 10/-" with four-issue franking tied by light 'PAQUEBOT/SYDNEY' cds, Australian Customs 'ASSESSMENT LABEL' affixed & 3/11d duty assessed, endorsed "T3d" and Postage Due 1d & 2d tied by 'SURREY HILLS/VIC' cds, minor faults. Australian Customs Labels on cover are extremely rare.
1944 (Apr 8) large piece from an officer's parcel (219x172mm) endorsed "Cigarette Case/Value £3.0.0" registered to GB with rare & exceptional franking of 50c 1r50c pair & 5r block of 4, 'PASSED - BY MILITARY - CENSOR/ ["autograph"]/No 11/74' cachet (#H.EA.4A) & British 'crown]/CUSTOMS/AND/EXCISE' cachet, some soiling. An extraordinary survivor. [The rate was 1r x23 + 20c registration + 30c insurance for 120 rupees = 23r50c]
