TASMANIA: (Jan 29) usage of Letter Card Larger Views 2d "LAUNCESTON" (bridge across the river) to Melbourne with Hobart cds, redirected to Sydney & again to North Sydney. Most attractive.

VICTORIA: 1901 1d Letter Card Stieg #A13 locally self-addressed by WR Rundell with Melbourne cds of 1.4.01 & message inside "1.4.01 This Letter Card was issued this day consequent upon the 1d postage being reinstated today WRR". Rare: believed to be the only First Day Cover recorded. [At Federation, the Victorian rate was 2d per ½oz to anywhere in Australia. From 1/4/1901 the intrastate rate was halved to 1d]

1902 (July 2) usage of Victorian 'One Penny.' on 2d Letter Card Stieg #A12 (Cat $US300) to London (arrival b/s) with superb 'ARARAT/VICTORIA - 93' duplex partly obscured by ½d & 1d - added when it was realised at the post office that the addressee was overseas - & tied by another superb strike of the duplex, stuck but otherwise superb. [The UPU rate was 2½d for all overseas destinations]
1903 (June 15) usage of Western Australian 2d Letter Card to Wales with ½d Swan & superb Fremantle duplex cancel, 'CARMARTHEN' arrival cds & redirected to Yorkshire with 'ILKLEY' arrival b/s. [Illustration on page 20]

1912 (June 13) usage to Sweden of Fullface 1d Letter Card ("SETTLER'S HOME VIC" in purple) with SA ½d added & tied by 'NORTH ADELAIDE' cds, endorsed "20c/T" & on arrival struck with 'T'-in-octagon h/s, 'LOSEN/("16") öre' postage due label affixed and 1ö and 15ö postage adhesives added in lieu of Postage Dues, carefully opened (in the European manner) without removing the margins. Outstanding & beautiful item: acquired for $3024 at our auction of 26/9/2003. [The message appears to be written in both Swedish & Esperanto]
1913 (Feb 11) usage of Kangaroo 1d Letter Card "ZOO ADELAIDE SA" (flamingoes) in purple, to Austria uprated with NSW ½d & 1d Roo tied by Sydney machine cancel & cds.
1913 (May 8) usage of NSW 1d Letter Card to Austria but uprated with Kangaroo ½d only so large 'NSW/T/20' shield h/s applied, Austrian Postage Dues 10h pair affixed to the reverse & tied by 'MODLING 1/BESTELT' cds, the sender's address given within as "Revd Father Roth/Catholic Mission Wiriki/Taveuni Fiji Islands", very minor blemishes.
OVERSEAS: (Apr 2) usage of 1911 Fullface 1d Letter Card ("GIANT RED GUM, VIC" in red-purple) to Germany uprated with Victorian 2d purple & 2½d blue tied by 'REGISTERED/ 1 /MELBOURNE' cds, scarce black/white registration label, carefully opened in the European manner with the margins remaining intact. Registration of Letter Cards is most unusual, making this an exceptional States/CofA combination franking.
