AIRGRAPHS: 1943 Qantas Christmas Greetings with Kangaroo Mailman, unfolded unused. Rare: stated only two examples are recorded, the other being in the previous lot. Ex Andy Jansen. [This was obviously the inspiration for the 1944 Qantas Christmas Aerogramme]
WESTERN AUSTRALIA - Postal History
1883 (Aug 7) cover to Italy "per Pekin" with Perf 14 1d yellow-ochre & 6d lilac tied by poor 15-bar '6' cancels, fine Albany cds at base, fumigated at Venice where cut by three chisel slits (one affecting the 1d, another through the complete Union Bank of Australia wafer on the flap), Naples arrival, upright-oval '1A/DIST/11/SET/83' & '81'-in-heart postman's backstamps, minor faults. Ex Patrick Pearson and Dr Cecil Walkley: acquired for $3105. RPSofV Certificate (2011). Carried "Pekin" 7/8/1883; then "Venetia" from Aden direct to Venice arrived 9/9/1883. A very scarce 7d rate cover : see "Black Swan" (Mar 1987). Pope & Reynolds Census #54. [A cholera outbreak in Egypt caused Italian authorities to accept mail from the East only if it was not trans-shipped in Egypt]

Single volume collection mostly mint including 1898 set, 1902-21 set, 1921-23 set mint & used, 1927-41 set plus Plate Number blocks of 4 (ex 2pi), 1931-37 Airs both perfs plus Perf 13 20pi and Plate Number blocks of 4 to 5pi, 1935 General Gordon set, 1940-41 Surcharges, Officials including 1901 'SG' Perfin Inverted used, 1903-12 set plus extra 10pi x2 (one used), 1922 set perf 'SG', 1927-30 2pi 5pi & 10pi perf 'SG', etc, generally fine, Cat £1900 approximately; also Postage Dues, Telegraph "pairs" mint x9 & used x6, 'SAWAKIN' Postal Seal in red, postmarks, 1899 cover apparently addressed by Field Marshall Kitchener, 1902 2m Wrapper & 1908 1½pi Registration Envelope both with 'SPECIMEN' h/s.(Qty 100s)
1897 'SOUDAN' Overprints on Egypt study on leaves with basic sets mint x2 & used plus the six types of the overprint for all values - missing only the 5pi Type IV - mostly used but 10pi x4 are mint, plus plating guide, Postage Dues, 5m with 'SG' perfin Inverted & Reversed used, 'TEL'-in-Oval (= Telegraphs) handstamp x6, generally fine, Cat £1000++; also Postal Stationery in very mixed condition.(Qty 140+)
ARMY OFFICIALS: Collection mostly mint including 1905 1m with Small Overprint & with '!' for 'I', 'ARMY' Reading Down 1m, Quatrefoil Wmk 1m, 1906-11 to 2pi plus 5pi with RPSofL Certificate, 3m & 1pi blocks of 4, to 5pi used & the five values overprinted 'SPECIMEN' (no gum), Quatrefoil 10pi SG AS16 plus the three values overprinted 'SPECIMEN' on small pieces, 1912-22 'AS' Perfins set used, etc, also a few forgeries, generally fine, Cat £1900+. ARMY OFFICIALS: 1905 'ARMY' Reading Up 1m SG A1 block of 10 [5-6/29-30], the second & fourth units with Small Overprint resulting in two se-tenant pairs SG A1c, the second-last unit with !' for 'I' SG A1a, well centred, Cat £380++.
POSTMARKS: Duplicated array in album including TPOs, rettas & Forces types, most are part-strikes only but there are many complete or large-part strikes & many fine to very fine strikes. Worth a look.(Qty 350 approx)
