1976 Scenic Issue18c comprising the 16 views that were substituted, nine for relatively minor technical reasons, the other seven - with the "new" versions for comparison - because it was claimed the actual photographs had to be replaced, also two views with Helecon Bars Omitted, unused. Superb! Modern rarities. [Andy Jansen's set sold at the Prestige auction of 7.12.2012 for $2070]

The reintroduction of Postal Cards, after a hiatus of 19 years, was accompanied by both great fanfare and one of the greatest production snafus ever created by the Post Office . It is debatable if most of the selection/technical "problems" identified required rectification. Several of the substituted views are artistically inferior to those they replaced. However, Port Macquarie (NSW) had not moved to Coolangatta (Qld)! Virtually all of the original sets were destroyed & very few were actually distributed.

The importance of all this is that the stamp impressions were the same as the views, meaning that Australia Post issued seven error stamps in miniscule proportions. If these were adhesive stamps, the seven withdrawn designs would each be worth thousands of dollars. (Qty 38)

NVI Scenic Issues: Carton of these modern 'surprise' issues, so-called because many of them were issued in very low numbers with inadequate or zero notice from the marketing geniuses (genii ?) at Australia Post, or hidden in 'prestige' booklets. Loads of thematic content & Exhibition overprints plus many ignorant caption errors noted, some on annotated pages, some are CTO but the balance are valid for postage. A few keen enthusiasts tracked down issues in their States & exchanged between themselves. This is thus one of the largest known holdings. In years to come, many of these cards will be considered modern rarities. Buy now, before many people care, and put any duplicates on ebay. (Qty many 100s)

POSTAL CARDS: c.1891 skilfully rendered essay in India ink & China white for a proposed 2d issue, artist's pseudonym 'Finis Coronat Opus' at L/L, the reverse with a rough sketch for a different design & 'South Australia/POST CARD' heading slightly affected by a surface abrasion where removed from a backing page. Delightful! [Most so-called postal stationery essays from South Australia are amateurish efforts that can best be described as rubbish. This is an entirely different standard of work, offered at what should prove to be a very conservative estimate]
