"A Selection of the Engraved Stamps of the Commonwealth of Australia" collections with black, red or blue covers, each with an array of reprinted die proofs of pre-decimal issues.
1886-96 'POSTAGE & REVENUE' Perf 11½-12½ 2/6d to £20 including the very scarce £5 brown (15mm Opt) all with 12½mm 'SPECIMEN' overprint, characteristic rough perfs, all with large-part o.g., Cat £800. An unusually fine set. [Excepting the £5 brown, these stamps were reprinted for the specific purpose of being overprinted 'SPECIMEN'] (Qty 14)
1894 Dowager Empress' Birthday 1897 Second Printings 3ca yellow SG 27, large-part o.g., Cat £650. [These stamps were printed specifically to be surcharged with the new currency. The shades vary from the 1894 original printings]
1894 Dowager Empress' Birthday 4ca pale rose SG 28, large-part o.g., Cat £750.
REPRINTS: 1884 official reprint of imperf Large Star 6d dull brown with Type C sans-serif 'SPECIMEN.' (11x1mm) handstamp in red, good to large margins, without gum. Holcombe Certificate (1992) states "......is a reprint, and as such is in my opinion genuine. Specimen handstamps on the reprint are very rare and very few exist."
1877-80 Samoa Express with genuine First State 3d SG 2 [Pos 18] with heavy ironed-out crease (unused), Second State 6d SG 6 [Pos 1, (pen cancel in red)], Pos  & [9 (truncated at the base)] both with Apia cds & 1/- SG 7 [Pos 9], and Fourth State 9d SG 20 [Pos 4] unused, Cat £2000+; then an array of reprints including a few blocks, large-part reconstructions of the 1d 2d & 3d, and a few "used".
