MERCHANDISE / SAMPLES
OVERSEAS: 1913 (Oct 28) large piece from a parcel (folded for display to 200x139mm) to Belgium with rare franking of Kangaroos First Wmk 4d orange & 2/- brown, poor 'NORWOOD/SA' squared-circles, 'PARCEL POST/FORM OF CUSTOMS DECLARATION' label affixed to the reverse & endorsed "Natural History Specimens only/Shells/for Museum Purposes", on arrival re-addressed elsewhere but the rest of the address has been removed. A remarkable item for the collector of Kangaroo usage: only one other postal article is recorded bearing the First Wmk 2/-. [The overseas rate was 1d per 2oz so the parcel weighed between 54 & 56oz = 3½ pounds @ 1d per 2oz x28 = 2/4d. To send a normal parcel weighing between 4 & 7 pounds to Belgium would have cost 3/7d]
