ARTIST CARDS: LOUIS WAIN: c.1902 Undivided Backs British "Write-away" cards of a Cat Swimming (very fine used DE23/02), Drinking (a bit grubby, 1903 usage on the Isle of Wight), or Fishing (French edition, very fine used in 1903); also Raphael Tuck "Marie Dainton in the Chinese Honeymoon" (corner stains, very early usage AP28/02). Ex Keith Harrison, who noted the earliest recorded date for a Louis Wain card is 5/3/1902.
ARTIST CARDS: British Divided Backs Raphael Tuck Cats "You Will Be Lucky In Love" (soiled on the address-side, used in 1908); Valentine's "Isle of Man: We won't go home till morning" (Dancing, unused) & "Be It Ever So Humble, There Is No Place Like Home" (Rooftop Orchestra, used at Douglas Isle of Man in 1912). ENTERTAINMENT: British William Shakespeare group with artist cards by G Demain Hammond x10 and John Gielgud as Richard II by Elizabeth Montgomery, Stratford-on-Avon Tuck set of 6, 1912 "Shakespeare's England at Earl's Court", etc; also 1901 Empire Theatre Old China Ballet set of 12 cards by C Wilhelm; generally fine to very fine & mostly unused. ENTERTAINMENT: Substantial box of mostly British Actors & Actresses mostly studio shots including "The Biograph Post Card" Undivided Backs x36, "Madame Clara Butt" & "Madame Sarah Bernhardt", some family shots including "Miss Edna May's Wedding Party", "Mr & Mrs George Robey & Children" and "Mr & Mrs Harry Lauder", some multi-views including "Ellen Terry" & "Marie Studholme", also a good range of "stills" from stage productions, generally fine to very fine & mostly unused. ENTERTAINMENT: Great Britain 1916-20 real photos of performing troupes comprising "Jack Sheppard's Entertainers, Brighton 1917" & similar for 1919 & 1920, and various groups of Pierrots including "Bert Grapho and his Jovial Jollies" & c.1916 Australian Comforts Fund "The Anzac Coves", unused.
ENTERTAINMENT: Mounted mostly British group of theatre buildings mostly the larger venues but including "Penge Empire Theatre", "Super Cinema, Ilford", "Picture Palace, Heytesbury", "Picture Playhouse" (Birmingham), "Garrison Theatre, Tidworth Barracks" x2, Melbourne's "Melba Theatre" x2 & "Rickards Tivoli Theatre", some are real photo types including 1922 "Hillside Picture Pavilion" (Australian ?) after being destroyed in a storm x2, condition variable but generally fine to very fine. ENTERTAINMENT: Extensive mounted collection of theatre actresses (mostly) & actors, mostly studio portraits but some more interesting studies noted, mostly names unknown to recent generations but including "household names" Lily Langtry, Clara Butt, Lillian Russell, Sarah Bernhardt, Anna Pavlova, the delightfully named Tittell Brune, the infamous Mata Hari and a Portrait Bas-Relief Card of Nellie Melba, some cross-dressing noted, also a 1900 mourning card for Madmoiselle Henriot, condition variable but generally fine to very fine. ENTERTAINMENT: Marie Studholme collection of mostly studio portraits in stage costume or "civvies" including sumptuous gowns & extravagant hats, also Exhausted After Tennis, Learning Ju Jitsu & with Second Billing to an Elephant!, many real photo types, some photos used for multiple editions, condition variable but generally fine to very fine. Ex Derek Pocock. [Marie Studholme, born Caroline Marita Lupton, was a prominent Edwardian stage actress more noted for her beauty than her talent]

NOVELTY: Great Britain c.1910 (?) Rotary Photographic Co four cards with postcard-backs each with 12 (2) or 20 (2) perforated real photos of actress Gladys Cooper (3) or "Mother and Child" with large-part original gum!!, some gum blemishes but facially superb. Weird & wonderful! and the only such "cards" we have seen. Ex Keith Harrison. [Apparently, it was intended that these "Cinderellas" would be separated & used on other correspondence]
ARTIST CARDS: Harding & Billings humorous ballroom dancing comprising "The Cakewalk", The Lancers", "The Polka", "The Skirt Dance", "The Waltz" & "The Gavotte", some minor toning/discolouration on the view sides, unused. A rare set.
ENTERTAINMENT: Excellent batch with Talma (Melbourne) actors & actresses x26, many advertising specific productions including "The Golliwoggs", "The Man from Mexico", "The Cingalee" and "The Merry Widow" complete (?) set of 10, Falk (Sydney) actors & actresses x11, Harcourt McGuffie (Hobart) x2, Alice Mills (Melbourne) x2, etc, also "The Principal Members of JC Williamson's New Comic Opera Co" with 9 portraits, 1930s ABC/3LO x3 including "Champion Wrestlers" with 8 portraits, radio station 5DN (Adelaide) x5, etc, condition variable but many are fine to very fine. ENTERTAINMENT: "Zeynard's Marvellous Midget Circus/Tiny Town - the Big Show" x8 three with 'SWIFT PRINT SYD' on the address side, Liliputaner Circus x2 (one with notation re performance in Adelaide in November 1911) & Specialty Troup x2, a few faults but generally fine to very fine. ENTERTAINMENT: Large album of mostly Australian Actors & Actresses with numerous studio portraits including elaborate theatre costumes plus extravagant Edwardian dresses & hats, plus "stills" from stage productions, some Singers noted - a couple of overseas visitors - including four gorgeous Art Nouveau cards of Blanche Arral, some facsimile signatures, a few advertising cards for local productions & FS Pacey (Sydney) movie stills from the 1912 film "From the Manger to the Cross" x2, Talma is the major producer but others noted, condition variable but many are fine to very fine.
