NEW SOUTH WALES - Postal History
1857to Scotland per "Oneida" with Diadem 6d grey (full margins) tied by bars cancel of Sydney (b/s), London transit b/s & bold 'CR' h/s of the Caledonian Railway, 'CARLUKE/MY11/1857' b/s from where re-addressed to Edinburgh with 1d red/blued paper added for the redirection fee & tied by '67'-in-bars, a couple of minor blemishes.
RAILWAY STAMPS:c.1950s Russell & Sons Dairy Engineers (Toowoomba) complete parcel tag to Warwick with 1d blue & 10d purple both inscribed 'TOOWOOMBA' & Railway Numeral '55' (?) cancels. A scarce survivor.
British Commonwealth in 40 albums & stockbooks some KGV & KGVI but strength in QEII to late 1990s with minor duplication, including long sets, M/Ss, booklets, self-adhesives & imperfs, noted 1948 Silver Wedding pairs x27, some Australia & GB plus worldwide with UN Flags sheetlets, lots of thematic interest in Flora & Fauna, Transport, Sport, Royalty, etc, the majority unmounted, enormous catalogue/face value.
1940 Centennialvertically se-tenant stampsize photographic proofs of James Berry's essays for 1) ½d Arrival of Maori, 1½d Abel Tasman (with the central vignette replaced from a different sheetlet in scarlet) & 2½d Immigrants in yellow-brown; and 2) 4d Flag Raising, 8d Transport & 5d Gold Mining (with the central vignette replaced from a different sheetlet in grey-green). Important developmental proofs for this key commemorative issue. [James Berry was responsible for 10 of the 12 issued designs] (2 items)
1897 'SOUDAN' Overprints on Egypt study on leaves with basic sets mint x2 & used plus the six types of the overprint for all values - missing only the 5pi Type IV - mostly used but 10pi x4 are mint, plus plating guide, Postage Dues, 5m with 'SG' perfin Inverted & Reversed used, 'TEL'-in-Oval (= Telegraphs) handstamp x6, generally fine, plus 1905 'ARMY' Reading Up 1m SG A1 block of 10 [5-6/29-30], the second & fourth units with Small Overprint resulting in two se-tenant pairs SG A1c, the second-last unit with !' for 'I' SG A1a, well centred, Cat £1400++; also Postal Stationery in very mixed condition. 1898 use of 'SOUDAN' Overprints on Egypt5m Sphinx Postal Cards (one a reply-half) to Tasmania with 2m & 3m overprints added, from 'ASSOUAN' and 'HALFA' x2 with transits including Challal, Suez & Colombo, all with Launceston arrival cds, minor soiling or folds but still attractive. Scace usage to the Australian Colonies.
