Category: COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA - Other Pre-Decimals

Description: 1930 (c.) hand-painted essay (127x102mm) by Ronald Harrison of an unaccepted 2/- design of HMS "The Endeavour" in blue-green & China white on thin board (243x198mm) superimposed with a modern board frame the simplicity of which perfectly sets off this beautiful piece of art by one of Australia's most accomplished stamp designers and engravers. A major item for a Captain Cook collection. Ex Sir Gawaine Baillie. [Illustrated on the front cover of "The Harrisons of Waterlows" by Robson Lowe, a copy of which is included. The illustration there is in apple-green & fails to do justice to Harrison's work. A companion to the 3d Blue Mountains essay - illustrated on back of the pamphlet - that we offered a couple of years ago]

Listed in: essays , Captain Cook , Transport - ships & boats , Art & Craft , THEMATICS & TOPICALS , AUSTRALIA
