Description: AUSTRALIA - VICTORIA: 1854 (Dec 11) government notice on linen (372x470mm) offering an enormous reward of 500 for the capture of the German Frederick Vern, one of the Eureka Stockade leaders who had escaped during the fighting, soiled/stained & with several holes. Despite the poor condition, this is a highly evocative artefact. [The reward was the highest posted for any of the Eureka participants. Vern was not captured but returned to Ballarat after the abortive trials. In 1856 he was imprisoned in Ballarat for 3 months for "rioting"]
