Description: 1866 cover to "Elsworth/Maine" with exceptional franking of 1861 Perkins Bacon 4d vermilion Perf 14 SG 40 horizontal pair & Crown CC Perf 12˝ 1/- bright green SG 61 tied by three very fine strikes of the 15-bar ‘6’ cancel, ‘ALBANY/JY4/1866/=WESTERN-AUSTRALIA=’ cds at lower-left, London transit cds & manuscript “11˝” overstruck with American ‘5/CENTS’ accountancy h/s, ‘N YORK BR PKT/PAID’ cds at upper-left, repaired opening tears on the flap in no way detract from the very fine appearance. Rare & beautiful! Not recorded in the Pope & Reynolds Census. RPSofV Certificate (2012). [We know of only one other cover bearing a multiple of the 4d vermilion, also a pair. Dr Cecil Walkley's very fine cover with a single 4d vermilion + No Watermark 6d deep lilac sold for $10,350]
