Category: 1854-55 Lithographs

Description: FOUR PENCE - IMPERFORATE: PIN-PERFORATED: 4d blue (deep shade) with 'T' of 'POSTAGE' Shaved to a Point at Foot SG 3d(var), pin-perforations on all sides well clear of the design, minor thin at the base, 15-bar '18' of Bunbury in blue, Cat £1000++. Rare. Ex Dr Cecil Walkley. Unlisted by Gibbons but mentioned in a footnote below SG 6a: we urge the editor to add these rare stamps to the main listing.̃̃The pin-perforating was almost certainly effected at Bunbury. All of the few examples we have seen have been similarly cancelled. Dr Cecil Walkley also had a pin-perforated 1860 2d vermilion similarly cancelled at Bunbury. This is a more attractive and better centred stamp than the example - without a listed Transfer Variety - that sold for $1035 at our auction of 19/11/2011.
