Description: 1847 envelope (not a lettersheet) to London per "Overland Mail" rated "d6" with an unusually fine strike of the octagonal 'PAID/(23.6.47"/FREMANTLE' handstamp in red, two London arrival backstamps both in red & charged "1/-" for an incoming packet letter, minor stain at the base. A most attractive pre-stamp cover. [The sender added a postscript inside the flap & signed it "G King". George King was an important early settler. He arrived -/10/1841 on the "Ganges". He built St John's Church at Fremantle, ran a school for Aboriginal children & was a critic of government policy regarding aborigines]
