Description: 1854 cover to England with Lithographed 4d pale blue SG 3 (good margins except where just shaved at upper-right) tied by superb void grid cancel, largely very fine strike of the undated oval 'POST OFFICE/[crown]/ PERTH/ WESTERN AUSTRALIA' h/s - with curved 'PERTH' - in red, London transit b/s in red & fine 'KETTERING' arrival cds in green on the face. A very attractive cover. [The Perth h/s is recorded between 19/9/1854 & 23/9/1858, this being a very early c.September 1854 usage. It is also a very early usage of the 4d stamp, which was issued on 1/8/1854. Dr Cecil Walkley had only one 4d solo franking, of March 1855: it sold for $2760] [The illustration is above Lot 255]
