Description: 1840 (Dec 12) cross-written entire to England headed "Quambygine Farm", signed "Henry Carter" & on the face "HC Swan River", with postmaster's endorsement on the face "PO Perth 21 December 1840" & "Paid 4d" in red, straight-line 'SHIP LETTER' h/s & London arrival b/s of 6MY6/1841 in red, rated "8" in black. Carried via Mauritius per "Eleanor" which departed 1/1/1841. Rare post office endorsement in the period of no postal implements. Ex John Gartner and Dr Cecil Walkley: acquired for $1437. [The post office was relocated from Charles Macfaull's home to the Public Offices on 12/3/1840. Henry Carter arrived -/6/1840 on the "Prima Donna". He became a leading pastoralist in the Avon District]
