1860 mustard-coloured envelope to New York "Pr Columbian/via England" with Emblems 2d brown-lilac Horizontally Laid Paper SG 69 (folded over top of the envelope) plus Octagonal 1/-, very fine oval 'B MORTIMER & SON/...' cachet at upper-left (affected by a repaired opening tear), BN '1' & Melbourne b/s of JA17/60, London cds oif MR12/60 & New York cds of 28/3/1860. Despite the repaired tear, this is a most appealing cover. Carried per "Columbian", departed Melbourne 18/1/1860, arrived Port Louis 6/2/1860, arrived Suez 25/2/1860; then per "Pera", departed Alexandria 27/2/1860, arrived Southampton 11/3/1860.
