Description: 1851 entire letter to Geelong with a very fine example of Ham's Second State (More Colour above 'VICTORIA') 1d pale red-brown SG 5 tied - unusual for Half-Length covers - by very fine Butterfly '1' of Melbourne, 'MELBOURNE/ MY*7/1851/PORT PHILLIP' & Geelong arrival b/s of the same day. A delightful Half-Lengths cover, & certainly one of the finest we have ever handled. Ex Guy Linfield and Gary Diffen: sold 14/11/2007 for 4465. [The inland rate was 2d, & the town rate was 1d, so this item should have been taxed or returned for additional postage. According to the Gary Diffen sale catalogue "Eight covers are recorded in this shade and this is probably the finest"]
