Description: 1923 Plane Crash Simpson & Bell (Tweed Heads) real photo "Accident to G-AUBL 23.1.1923" (Gawking On-Lookers, the Plane Literally Split in Half), faint bend, unused. Ex Coo-ee Picture Library. [This incident took place at Greenmount & was caused by the pilot swerving to avoid children who ran across his path. The pilot, Edgar Wikner Percival, served in the Middle East with the AIF & was accepted into the Royal Flying Corps. In 1919 he established a successful aviation business at Richmond (NSW) & later became a highly respected aircraft designer]
