Description: 1854 cover to Melbourne (b/s) with Half-Lengths White Veils 3d blue SG 14 horizontal pair (full margins except at left where a little cut into, with fragments of 3 adjoining units), light Barred Oval of 'WILLIAMS TOWN' (fine b/s of AU21/1854), the address partly obliterated. [On 1/5/1854, inland postage was increased from 2d to 6d!! This caused an outcry that resulted in the former rate being reinstated from 1/7/1855. 6d rate covers are surprisingly scarce: Gary Diffen recorded only nine]
