Description: SIX PENCE: 1896 6d die proof in black on surfaced card (92x60mm) with handstamps '9DEC96' in blue & 'BEFORE/HARDENING' BW #W2DP(1)A, light bend clear of the stamp impression, Cat $3000. Rare: only a few have been recorded. [Although the 6d was proofed in 1896 and printed in 1897, the entire printing was held in reserve until October 1906, making this a Commonwealth-period issue. Dr Cecil Walkley's superb example sold for $2530]
