Description: PAPAWAI: 1917 cover with '.../FEATHERSTON MILTARY CAMP' imprint at U/L & endorsed "AW Gordon/26th MR" at L/L, 1d Dominion tied by largely very fine strike of the rare double-circle 'PAPAWAI/MILITARY CAMP' cds (unlisted by Richard Wooders so rated 10), minor defects. PO 19.9.1916; closed 29.11.1918. [On 12.8.1917, the writer, Albert Gordon, died of wounds suffered in aerial combat. He was the first NZ airman to lose his life in this manner]
