Auction: 231 - Lot number: 84 << Previous   Next >>

Category: COMMONWEALTH OF AUSTRALIA - KGV Heads - Single Watermark

Description: 2d orange with the Watermark Inverted ACSC #95a (SG 62w), one nibbled perf at the top, and a normal stamp, both with very fine 'BURRACOPPIN/5APR1922/WESTERN AUSTRALIA' cds, Cat $8000 (5500). A very attractive example. [The ACSC states that about 20 examples, all used, are recorded. Stuart Hardy's significantly off-centre example sold at auction in 2013 for $4427]

The normal stamp being dated the same day at the same small PO raises the intriguing question "Could the error be the result of a wmk bit that was inverted on the dandy roll, rather than the sheet being inverted prior to printing!?"

Listed in: C of A KGV Single Watermark , WESTERN AUSTRALIA , Varieties , AUSTRALIA , C of A KGV King George V Issues

Estimate: AUD$ 4000.00T
