1899-1900 De La Rue Pictorials ½d 'LAKE MARION' imperforate colour trial in bright ultramarine with wide margin at left, large-part o.g.
This and the next twelve lots are all on unwatermarked wove paper. 68 separate colour trials were produced: each is unique, which causes us to believe that they are all die proofs, not plate proofs, reduced to stamp-size to enable the Agent-General to easily compare the trials for each denomination. All are illustrated in "The De La Rue Collection" edited by Frank Walton RDP. [John Bell's 6d in bright ultramarine sold at the Prestige auction of 12.6.2010 for $2300. Mac Clarke's large 2d die proof in crimson - not illustrated in the Walton book - sold at the Prestige auction of 17.10.2008 for $5520]
