1860 Large Star Imperf 1d carmine-rose SG 1, very fine but for the design being just touched at lower-right, light Rays '87' of Drayton; 2d blue SG 2, margins close to good with complete outer framelines, indistinct cancel; and 6d green SG 3, good to large margins & outer framelines except at right, Brisbane duplex cancel; Cat £3400. A finer & more attractive set. RPSofL Certificate (1963) for the 6d. (3)
1860 Large Star Imperf 1d carmine-rose SG 1, margins good to large with complete framelines & at L/R a fragment of the outer frameline from the adjoining unit at right, Cat £800. David Brandon Certificate (1977).
1860 Large Star Imperf 1d carmine-rose SG 1, margins large to huge with framelines at base from the adjoining unit below & a chunk of the adjoining unit at left, superb 'Q.L'-in-Rays cancel, Cat £800. A magnificent stamp! Giulio Bolaffi (1963; translated "perfect...enormous margins, freshest colour...one of the finest in existence..."), Sergio Sismondo (2008; "...is entirely free from faults or repairs...") & David Brandon (2008) Certificates. [For this issue, it is considered that this stamp is surpassed only by Marcel Burrus' incredible 6d]
1860 Large Star Imperf 2d blue horizontal strip of 3, good margins & complete outer framelines except at the base where a bit cut-into, light indistinct cancels, Cat £5400++. An extremely rare multiple. [Bernie Manning recorded seven pairs & eight strips of 3, one in the Royal Collection. A very fine pair sold at the Prestige auction of 24.1.2004 for $8960]
1860 Large Star Clean-Cut Perf 14-16 6d green SG 6, very well centred, minor toning, unused, Cat £1400.
1860 Small Star Watermark complete sheet of 240 impressions (12x20) with 'POSTAGE' six times in the margins, central horizontal fold, aging/damp-spotting on the reverse only.
1862-67 No Watermark 1d Indian red (small separation fault at lower-left), 1d vermilion, 2d pale blue, 2d blue pair, 3d, 6d apple-green, 6d yellow-green & 1/- SG 21-29 group, some characteristic irregular perfs, unused, a couple with part-o.g., Cat £1825.
1862-67 No Watermark 6d yellow-green with Major Plate Scratch at Lower-Right SG 27b - toned perfs - with smudged cancel clear of the variety on 1866 cover to Yorkshire, backstamps of 'YAAMBA' (SE2/66), Rockhampton, Brisbane & superb Leeds arrival of 17NO66, light vertical fold at left. A rare stamp on cover.
1868-74 Truncated Star 2d blue horizontal pair, the right-hand unit being the normal Truncated Star Watermark but the left-hand unit being Small Star Watermark, light Rays '48' cancels. A remarkable instance of a wrong watermark 'bit' being inserted (replaced) on the dandy roll. [Far superior quality to Bernie Manning's similar pair, described as the only known pair outside the Royal Collection, which sold for $1840. Imagine the excitement - and the price - if this was a First Wmk/Second Wmk se-tenant pair of Kangaroos!]
1868-78 Crown/Q Perf 13 4d yellow SG 89, well centred, minor blemishes, unused, Cat £2250. A rare stamp. [Very fine mint examples sold at the Prestige auctions of 10.3.2007 & 12.5.2007 for $3450 & $3910 respectively]
1868-78 Crown/Q Perf 12 3d brown SG 101 block of 4, large-part o.g. with the lower units being unmounted, Cat £480++ (mounted).
1868-78 Crown/Q Perf 12 6d yellow-green SG 106 block of 9 from the top of the sheet, the upper units with Horizontal Watermark Line Only (Crown/Q Omitted), minor stains/tonespots, large-part o.g., Cat £2250++.
1868-78 Crown/Q Compound Perfs annotated selection with 1d x6 including a pair, 2d x3, 3d x2, 4d x3, 6d unused & 1/-, Cat £3000 plus the unpriced 6d and the unlisted 3d & 1/-. Offered strictly 'as is'.
1880 Lithographed High Values 20/- rose SG 127 corner example from the lower-left of the sheet, large-part o.g., Cat £2250. Ex "Chartwell": sold in May 2018 for £1080.
1879-81 First Sidefaces Wmk 6 6d yellow-green SG 143 horizontal strip of 4, unusually well centred for this issue, some characteristic irregular perfs, unused, Cat £720+.
c.1880 Waterlow essay for a 'QUEENSLAND/TWO PENCE' issue imperforate plate proofs in greenish black, slate-violet or carmine-lake on unwatermarked paper, all closely trimmed but with complete outer framelines. Rare. [The Robson Lowe Encyclopaedia states "Little is known about these essays". Given the amateurishness of the ugly First Sidefaces, we expect the design was prepared in an unsuccessful bid to encourage Queensland to lift its game]
1880 Bell Essay 'HALF PENNY/QUEENSLAND' with 'Q' Corrected imperforate plate proof pair in carmine-pink on ungummed Q/Crown paper, each unit with characteristically underinked 'SPECIMEN' h/s.
1882-95 Large Chalons Thin Paper Wmk 6 (?) 5/- rose Imperforate single, three large margins with a chunk of the adjoining unit at left & just shaved at the base, tied to thin piece of card by unframed 'GYMPIE' apparently of OC4/92, framed 'REGISTERED/GYMPIE' cds & blue registration line. Rare: unlisted in Gibbons. [Ken Scudder at page 71 notes that an example of this error was recorded as early as August 1892. This item is endorsed on the reverse "Basset Hull/Johnstone"]
1895-96 Void Background Perf 12½,13 ½d green with Double Impression SG 208a vertical strip of 4, light indistinct cancellations, Cat £8000+. Almost certainly the largest recorded used multiple. With a normal stamp for comparison. [The first print is quite faint & was obviously considered unsatisfactory. The strong second impression is 2mm to the left and slightly lower]
Ken Scudder at page 179 states "Clear double prints exist...probably all...from the same sheet of stamps." Until the 2010 Edition, this error was unpriced by Gibbons. From 2011, it was priced at £2000 unused or used, and has not budged since.
