1921 parcel piece with Third Wmk Perf 'OS' 6d blue strip of 3 + 2/- brown (Cat $750 on cover, but virtually unobtainable thus); 1916 'QUEENSLAND/INTERSTATE PARCEL POST' label with Second Wmk (?) 2d & 1/-; 1930s Parcels Post labels with 1/-, or 6d brown 1/- & 2/- maroon; and 1934 parcel tag with 5/- (+ KGV 5d & Vic Centenary 1/-); condition variable. Underpaid mail to GB (1931 airmail with Postage Due 2d x2), United States (3, two with Postage Dues), France (double-taxed), Germany, Netherlands Indies, New Zealand (½d solo franking with NZ 1d Postage Due), and Austria (with Postage Due 10h & 20h pair), several scarce tax handstamps noted. 1913 'AUSTRALIAN/PICTORIAL LETTERETTE' illustrated lettersheet to Germany with scarce combination franking of 1d Roo + South Australia ½d & 1d tied by Adelaide machine, minor flap fault & blemishes.
1913-14 postcards for different Victorian Government Departments with Perf Large 'OS' 1d or ½d (Printed Matter rate; very scarce on cover) respectively both tied by Melbourne machine cancel. (Qty 2)
1914 (Feb) triple-rate cover to a military camp in Germany with lovely 3-colour franking of ½d green, 1d red x2 & 5d chestnut tied by Sydney cds, repaired tear on the flap.
1914 advertising cover for Brandt Bros illustrated on the face for Steam Cookers & on the reverse for Gas Machines, to New Zealand with ½d only tied by Sydney machine cancel, mss "T1d" in red, New Zealand 1d Postage Due tied by Auckland cds, minor blemishes.
1915 double-weight cover to Switzerland with Second Watermark 2d pair (+ KGV 1d) cancelled on arrival with 'BASEL 2/11XI15/BRIEF EXPEDITION' cds, Royal coat-of-arms in gold on the flap, minor blemishes.
1915 triple-rate cover to Switzerland with rare franking of Second Watermark 6d ultramarine (+ KGV ½d & 1d) cancelled on arrival with two poor strikes of 'BASEL 2' cds, 'PASSED.' h/s in violet, 'BASEL/ 3XI15/BRIEFTRAGER' (= Letter Carrier) b/s, a couple of minor faults.
1915 cover to Switzerland with ½d green (+ KGV 1d pair) tied by Launceston cds, red/white 'OPENED BY CENSOR' tape & very fine strike of the recut 'CL.../[crown]/PASSED BY/CENSOR.' h/s ('2' excised) in blue, 'BASEL/3XI15/BRIEFTRAGER' (= Letter Carrier) b/s. Most attractive.
1915 cover to Switzerland with Second Wmk 2½d horizontal pair [2L5-6] tied by Adelaide machine cancel, the left-hand unit with White Scratch SW of Cape Leeuwin which is not obstructed by the postmark, red/white 'Opened by Censor' tape & 'PASSED.' h/s in violet.
1915 1915 (Oct) triple-rate cover to Switzerland with 2½d & 5d tied by the very scarce 'CHARLOTTE WATERS/N.T.' cds, 'PASSED.' h/s in violet, a few faults. Terrific Northern Territory origin.
1915 & 1916 covers to Switzerland each with 2½d cancelled with two-ring (in violet) or single-ring "dumb" cancels, each with 'PASSED.' h/s in violet or purple, both with 'BASEL' arrival b/s, the first with Adelaide sender's address. Most unusual.
1915 & 1916 a similar pair of covers at triple (2½d + 5d, the cover with a few faults) or single (2½d) rates, the stamps cancelled on arrival with 'BASEL 2/BRIEF D'EXPEDITION' cds, again with the 'PASSED.' h/s in violet or purple, the first again with Adelaide address on the flap. These covers would seem to confirm our belief that the first pair were sent in a locked bag, as were these. (Qty 2)
1915-17 group of covers to Switzerland franked 2½d (6, unchecked for watermarks) or 2d + KGV ½d (2) with an all-different range of Censor tapes and/or 'PASSED BY CENSOR' handstamps of various patterns, one endorsed "Letter for Germany", generally good to very fine but one from NSW is defective. Handy lot. [Several are to Dr Ernst Carroll, one of them additionally endorsed "Trade Commissioner"] (Qty 8)
1915-17 balance of the WWI covers to Switzerland with 2½d (10), 2d + KGV ½d (3) or 2d only but untaxed, various censor tapes and handstamps, one cover endorsed "From Department of Internal Affairs" is addressed to "Dr Ernst Carroll/Commonwealth Trade Commissioner", generally good to very fine. (Qty 14)
1916 double-rate cover to Switzerland with exceptionally well centred 5d tied by 'MANNUM/AP 18 16/ STH AUSTRALIA' cds, 'PASSED.' h/s in purple, Basel arrival b/s of 29V16.
1916 a remarkably similar cover of the same date from the same sender with the same arrival b/s!
1917 over-weight cover endorsed "Letter for enemy country" to Switzerland with 2d (+ KGV ½d) tied by 'MURTOA/VIC' cds 'T ("5d")'-in-oval tax h/s, red/white 'OPENED BY/CENSOR.' tape, 'BASEL/3XI15/ BRIEFAUFGABE' arrival b/s.
1921 double-rate cover to Switzerland with Third Wmk 6d blue tied by Melbourne machine cancel, minor blemishes & slightly reduced at left. [The rate was 4d for the first ounce + 2d for each successive ounce]
