1952 Opening Day cover to Victoria with Singapore 5c & 25c tied by superb 'COCOS/2SEP52/ISLAND' cds. [The mail was flown on 2.9.1952 to Sydney per the DC-4 'New Guinea Trader'. Kim Dwyer's similar cover sold for $414]
1954 commercial cover to GB with superb strike of the rare boxed 'BY AIR/FROM/KEELING COCOS/ISLANDS' cachet in violet, Singapore 20c & 50c tied poor 'COCOS/2FE54/ISLAND' cds, minor spotting.
1954 Royal Visit group comprising airmail cover to GB with superb strike of the huge Royal Visit cachet in violet, printed "map" cover to GB with blue & black/white 'Cocos Island' 'R' label, and three covers - one an Arthur Bergen - with Australian adhesives deemed invalid & all with Malay-pattern 'T/CENTIMES/("25c")' h/s, one with Postage Due 2d block of 4 on the reverse.
1954 cover with the Royal Coat-of-Arms embossed in red on the flap & endorsed "Personal", to an aide de camp at Buckingham Palace, Singapore 12c tied by superb 'COCOS/5APR54/ISLAND' cds. Rare mail from the Royal entourage.
1954 use of Jothee & Co formular aerogramme with printed 'Form Approved by the PMG Malaya No 3 (1)' endorsed on the reverse "JR Bartlett/C&W Ltd/Cocos Island", to Peru (!) with Singapore KGVI 20c & Coronation 10c tied by cds of 1MY54. Unusual & rare and a terrific origin/destination item. [Lengthy social letter states "The big news here is still the Royal Visit...It all went off like a bomb...I was one of the half dozen presented to HM and HRH..."]
1954 use of Singapore 25c+5c Air Letter endorsed "EM Smith/Qantas Empire Airways/Cocos Is", to GB with very fine cds of 7AUG54, minor blemishes. Social letter states "...My term of duty expires here at Cocos on the 30th october...I have no definate [sic] information regardings [sic] the handing over of the Islands to Australian administration..." Rare use from Cocos.
1955 cover endorsed on the flap "Kalzie bin Myle/Keeling Cocos Island" to "Tuan G Clunies-Ross/31 Jervois Road/ Singapore 10" with Singapore 10c tied by Cocos cds of 4SEP55, minor blemishes. Rare "local" cover, apparently from a Cocos Malay.
1955 commercial airmail cover to South Africa with Singapore Ships 5c 10c 20c & 50c tied by cds of 28OCT55. [From 1.4.1953, the rate to South Africa was increased to 85c]
1955 real photo PPC of buildings on West Island to GB with largely very fine strike of the rare boxed 'BY AIR/ FROM/KEELING COCOS/ISLANDS' cachet in violet, Singapore 35c tied by fine cds of 5NOV55, minor blemishes. The letter states "What a little bit of land in a big sea. The next flip is Mauritius, 11 hours flying. I have marked the end of the strip with an arrow. You see the place is really small, you either hit it or miss it..."! [The Singapore Post Office closed the next day]
1955 use of formular Air Letter permit number '71995/2E' to Somersetshire with Singapore Ships 5c 10c & 35c tied by 'COCOS/6NOV55/ISLAND' cds. Interesting social letter headed "Department of Civil Aviation/Cocos island" states "...Letters by air mail...have to be addressed VIA DARWIN and sea mail VIA PERTH WA but later "...(all) mail should be addressed COCOS ISLAND AUSTRALIA...The Australian govt take over on the 21st of this month then postage will be much cheaper..." Ex Kim Dwyer and David Flaat: acquired for $1207. [Carried on the last mail from the Singapore Agency]
1955 airmail cover to GB with Singapore Ships 5c 20c 25c & 50c tied 'COCOS/8NOV55/ISLAND' cds, blue/white 'Cocos Island' 'R' label. [From 1.4.1953, the rate to GB was increased to 70c + 30c registration. Mail posted after 6.11.1955 was held until after the transfer to Australian administration. Such post-closure items are rare]
