Unusual & rare and a terrific origin/destination item. [Lengthy social letter states "The big news here is still the Royal Visit...It all went off like a bomb...I was one of the half dozen presented to HM and HRH..."]

Social letter states "...My term of duty expires here at Cocos on the 30th october...I have no definate [sic] information regardings [sic] the handing over of the Islands to Australian administration..." Rare use from Cocos.

1955 real photo PPC of buildings on West Island to GB with largely very fine strike of the rare boxed 'BY AIR/ FROM/KEELING COCOS/ISLANDS' cachet in violet, Singapore 35c tied by fine cds of 5NOV55, minor blemishes. The letter states "What a little bit of land in a big sea. The next flip is Mauritius, 11 hours flying. I have marked the end of the strip with an arrow. You see the place is really small, you either hit it or miss it..."! [The Singapore Post Office closed the next day]

Interesting social letter headed "Department of Civil Aviation/Cocos island" states "...Letters by air mail...have to be addressed VIA DARWIN and sea mail VIA PERTH WA but later "...(all) mail should be addressed COCOS ISLAND AUSTRALIA...The Australian govt take over on the 21st of this month then postage will be much cheaper..." Ex Kim Dwyer and David Flaat: acquired for $1207. [Carried on the last mail from the Singapore Agency]
