KEVII group comprising 1d imperf plate proof pair on gummed brownish paper with diagonal 'CANCELLED' Overprint; Bradbury Wilkinson 2d 'dummy' plate proofs ungummed imperf x2 & gummed perforated - tonespot - all in violet; and De La Rue Small Minerva 'dummy' gummed imperf plate proof block of 4; all unmounted.

KGV range with 1911-12 Downey Heads selection of shades - personal assessment required - & watermarks including Wmk Imperial Crown Inverted Watermarks SG 333Wi 335Wi & 336Wi, Redrawn ½d & 1d unmounted blocks of 4 each with No Cross on Crown pair SG 340a & 341a, Simple Cypher 1d No Cross on Crown SG 345a, 1d with the Watermark Reversed SG 345Wj and ½d & 1d booklet panes of 6, Multiple Cypher 1d Imperforate SG 346b (gum a bit aged), etc, generally very fine with some unmounted units, Cat £1850++ as mounted singles; 1924-26 Block Cypher Watermark selection with 'SPECIMEN' Overprints Type 23 on 1½d & 9d olive-green, and 'CANCELLED' Overprints Type 28 on 1½d x3, and Type 33 on 1½d, Cat £760; and 1929 PUC varieties comprising ½d with 'CO' Joined SG Spec #NCom5d (unpriced mint or used), 1d with Broken Wreath at U/L and '1829' for '1929' #6d & 6f, and 1½d with '1829' for '1929' #7c, machine cancels clear or largely clear of the varieties, Cat £1075 mint - unpriced used - plus the unpriced ½d. A very desirable lot.
1841 Blued Paper 1d red-brown SG 8 strip of 8 [KA-KH], most units with full margins, Maltese Cross cancels in black. A scarce multiple.
1880-81 New Designs 1d Venetian red imperforate single [AA] on gummed watermarked paper from the U/L of the Imprimatur Sheet, margins close to huge, lightly mounted, Cat £275. Superb!
1883-84 High Values White Paper 2/6d lilac SG 178, exceptional centring, a couple of small gum imperfections but apparently unmounted, Cat £600+ (mounted).
1887-92 Jubilee ½d to 1/- (both) set SG 197-211 (ex 2d green & scarlet) including 5d Die I & II, and 10d purple and deep dull carmine (*) SG 210a (Cat £625) with David Brandon Certificate.
1902-10 KEVII DLR 3d pale reddish purple/orange-yellow Chalk Surfaced Paper SG 232c, excellent centring, Cat £225. BPA Certificate (2013).
1929 Postal Union Congress £1 black SG 438, well centred, lightly mounted, Cat £750.
1934 Re-Engraved Seahorses 2/6d 5/- & 10/- SG 450-2, well centred, very lightly mounted, Cat £575. An exceptional set.
1965 Joseph Lister 4d Carbolic Spray with Brown-Red Printing (Rubber Tube) Completely Omitted SG 667a tied to commercial cover by 'HEMEL HEMPSTEAD/14OCT/1965/HERTS' machine cancel, 'WATFORD' arrival backstamp & readdressed to Worthing, Cat £600 mint; unpriced used. An outstanding 'Missing Colour' usage. David Brandon Certificate (1997). [Tom Pierron states about 60 mint examples are known but only four used of which one - this item - "is on cover & features a Hemel Hempstead cancel"]
1972 Royal Silver Wedding 3p with Silver Printing (Inscription & '3p') Completely Omitted SG 916a tied to a commercial cover by 'LONDON W1/23JAN/1974' machine cancel, underpaid for airmail to South Africa but detected & sent by sea, 'UNIFIED/1.IV.74' b/s & readdressed internally, Cat £700 mint; unpriced used. Another outstanding 'Missing Colour' usage. [Tom Pierron records '36 mint, some used' & states "A used copy is known on piece with a 23 Jan 1974 date & London W1 postmark". That is almost certainly a reference to this cover]
BOOKLETS: 1904 KEVII 2/0½d (1d x24) SG Spec #BA1, ridiculously undercatalogued at £500. Pristine! [We say "ridiculously undercatalogued" because the 'Concise Catalogue' prices the panes at £300 x4 = £1200!]
POSTAGE DUES - SPECIMEN OVERPRINTS: 1914-23 Simple Cypher Wmk 2d perforated colour trials on gummed watermarked paper in emerald, carmine & chestnut - the colours chosen for the ½d 1d & 1½d - each with Type 23, the last with Double Overprint, plus 2d agate & 5d cinnamon (one very lightly mounted) with Type 26 or 23 Spec #R4t & #R7s blocks of 4; and 1924-31 Block Cypher Wmk 2/6d purple/yellow with Type 23 as Spec #R18s with the Overprint Double, Cat £800+ plus the Double Overprints that are not listed by Gibbons Specialised.
OFFICIALS: 1891-1900 'GOVT/PARCELS' QV 1d lilac with the Overprint Inverted SG O69c, excellent centring, neat rubber cancel, Cat £3500. RPSofL Certificate (1983).
REVENUES: KEVII Unappropriated Dies 24 denominations between 1d & £50 in purple, 11 denominations between 6d & 15/- in green & 6d in rose-pink, plus five to £1 overprinted for various users and Dog 'LICENSE TWO SHILLINGS', each with 'SPECIMEN' Handstamp or Horseshoe 'SPECIMEN' Overprint, all affixed to two foolscap pages with interleaving in a leather-bound folio, a few minor rust spots that don't affect the stamps and otherwise quite delightful.
