1835-36 entires from Calcutta to a British merchant in Canton (China) carried aboard various ships, one with good strike of the boxed 'CALCUTTA/GPO/SHIPLETTER' b/s & a few have Chinese characters applied on arrival, the condition a bit mixed. A rare group of early mail to China.
1836 entire from Calcutta to a British merchant in Canton (China) "pWaterWitch" with very fine strike of the boxed 'CALCUTTA/GPO/SHIPLETTER' b/s, horizontal fold & a little stained. [Two similar items from the same correspondence sold for $615 each in our Rarities Auction of 25/1/2003]
1856 native envelope with Imperf 1a (large margins, creased before being affixed), 'BOMBAY/P O' cds in red on the face & Calcutta 'GPO/1st DY' arrival b/s in red.
