UP TRAIN 1: Type 3 (CDS) very fine cancel of AU23/90 typically overstruck on BN '102' of 'MOUNT EGERTON' (poor cds on the face) on Postal Card to Melbourne (b/s), minor blemishes. Only six examples on cover recorded in the period after the direct Melbourne-Ballarat Line was opened. Mount Egerton is between Ballarat & Ballan]

UP TRAIN 11: Type 2 ('TPO 11') of 20AP10 & superb strike of 29OC12 on local PPCs from Bacchus Marsh to Melbourne & from Hamilton via Ararat to Melbourne redirected to Chiltern. Both rated RRR.
UP TRAIN 11: Type 2 ('TPO 11') large-part strike of 30NO12 on Ballarat PPC from Ballarat to Melbourne unusually with curved 'LATE FEE' h/s & Postage Due 1d manuscript cancelled. [By this date, the late fee was equivalent to a single rate of postage]
UP TRAIN 11: Type 2 ('TPO 11') largely very fine b/s of 30OC15 on Bank cover from Bendigo (cds of 30SE15) to New York with small 'Passed' censor h/s of Melbourne in violet, repaired opening tear on the reverse clear of the cds & minor blemishes. Rated RRR, the latest recorded usage on cover. [TPO 11 is not recorded used on the Bendigo Line & it is improbable that it was transferred there even for a very short period. Les Molnar obviously took the 30OC15 date to be an error. However, we suggest that the one month gap could be as a result of the cover being missent on the Ballarat Line, inadvertently held at Ballarat for a month, then returned to Melbourne to be sent to Wodonga & on to Sydney & America]
DOWN TRAIN 11: Type 1 (Small Octagon) superb cancel of JA17/05 tying 1d pink to cover with hand-painted illustration of a ballerina, to Serviceton with arrival cds on the face. Delightful. Rated RRRRR, being the later of only two recorded usages on cover. As Molnar & Waugh note at page 116, this marking is very common on loose stamps. [Illustrated at page 47]
DOWN TRAIN 11: Type 2 ('TPO 11') fine cancel of 1JA08 on 1d pink on PPC to England. Rated RRRRR: the later of only two recorded covers. [This item probably originated at a point between Melbourne & Ballarat and was processed on the Down service to connect at Ballarat with the next English Mail service. It is an important item because it proves that TPO services operated on New Year's Day]
