Bundle of mostly Darwin views but also Adelaide River, Katherine, mining at Tennant Creek etc, many real photos, generally fine to very fine. Ex Bronte Watts.
1915 real photo card "Return of His Excellency Dr Gilruth to Darwin 12.4.15" (with a bevy of white-suited officials on the wharf), used under cover with message "This is a view of our arrival in Darwin. Dad is on the fore part...". Ex Coo-ee Picture Library. [John Anderson Gilruth was a veterinarian (!) who, in 1912, was appointed Administrator of the Northern Territory. A straight-talker, he was unpopular with most Territorians, resulting in the "Darwin Rebellion" of December 1918. He was recalled two months later and, although ultimately absolved of any impropriety, spent many years in limbo before embarking on a new career with the CSIRO]
1918 "Darwin Rebellion" postcard-size photograph of at least 25 men - including several Aborigines - with placards & a red flag on the verandah of a brick building, minor spotting on the reverse only. Ex Coo-ee Picture Library. [The Rebellion was the culmination of eight years unrest by the Australian Workers' Union. On 17/12/1918, AWU Secretary Harold George Nelson & several hundred supporters marched to Government House to demand the resignation of the Administrator JA Gilruth]
