1916 (Jun 24) DNG PPC ('Erloungshein Toma auf Neu-Pommern/Gesellschaftshaus') to "Naval Depot/New Castle" [sic] with 1d type a tied by oval Rabaul d/s in violet, on arrival redirected to "Kings Harbour Master/Rabaul", chatty message headed "Kuradui 24.6.15" & signed "Matron", a couple of minor blemishes. [A rare postcard]
1918 (Oct) cover with 'A KEIDEL/MIOKO' h/s on the flap to "Vasanga New Hanover/District Kaewieng" with 1d type a & 3d Die II type c tied by indistinct Rabaul cds, German registration label, scarce black/white 'Passed by Censor' label (no underlining) & very fine strike of the rare vertical-oval 'PASSED BY CENSOR/No 3/AN & MEF' cachet in violet applied on arrival. Rare mail from a tiny island. [Mioko & Kerawara are small islands in the Duke of York group. There was never a PO on Mioko: mail was sent by boat 32km east to Rabaul. Kavieng is at the northern tip of New Ireland]
1918 (May 26) real photo PPC of a white man & two natives with message in German, to "Namatanai/New Ireland" with ½d pair type a tied by 'KOKOPO/---' cds with 'QUEENSLAND' excised, light but clear strike of the vertical-oval 'PASSED BY CENSOR/No 2/AN & MEF' cachet in violet, minor blemishes. An extremely rare & desirable social usage between two of the smaller offices.
1919 (July 15) cover endorsed "PF Fabian Madang" on the flap to "Matewolo/Post Kaewieng/New Irland" [sic] with Fifth Setting ½d x3 (1d + ½d war tax), a few faults. [The war tax was rarely paid on New Guinea covers, nor was it routinely sought to be collected. The distance from Madang on the northern coast to Kavieng at the northern tip of New Ireland is 630km]
1920 (Mar 17) cover with 'MIOKO/AGENTUR' impressed in red wax on the flap, to "Wasanga, New Hanover/District Kaewieng" with 4d orange tied by Rabaul cds, black/white 'RABAUL' registration label, minor defects.
1920 (May 20) Chinese merchant's cover endorsed "Wing Wah Cheong/Rabaul" addressed in Chinese & English to "Loong Poh/Maron" with Fifth Setting 2d tied by Rabaul cds, a little aged. [Maron is a tiny island NNW of Manus & the most remote outpost in New Guinea]
1923 (Feb 4) OHMS front with 2d orange punctured 'OS' SG O18 (Cat £48 x8+ on cover) tied by Rabaul cds, to "Ching Tin/Pilapila/Rataval", boxed 'UNCLAIMED/AT RABAUL' h/s & second cds of 29MR23. [Pilapila is on the western coast of New Britain, 18km W of Rabaul]
