Packet of better covers including 1925 Dunedin Exhibition pictorial lettercard, WWI Troopship 32 & 33 d/s on Ceylonese PPCs, useful WWII group including 1940 internee cover to USA endorsed "Written in Hungarian" & 1/- Centennial tied by 'PIRIPAUA' cds, Postal Stationery including QV 'ONE/PENNY' on 1˝d Letter Card with printed message & address for Anglo-New Zealand Cycle Co, 4d Mitre Peak Registration Envelope with 'SIDF' Variety #ED2a superb unused & a few uprated Postal Cards, etc, a few faults but a good lot. 1861 (Dec 11) entire from Dunedin with Imperf 6d yellow-brown (2 good to large margins, a little cut-into at left & base) cancelled on arrival with a fine strike of Barred Numeral'1' of Melbourne (arrival b/s in red), minor blemishes. Ex John Woolfe. [Stated to be the only Chalon on cover cancelled on arrival in any of the Australian Colonies]
1861 small flapless cover to "Whanganui" with Imperf 2d blue SG 10 - a huge and impressive example with close to massive margins & parts of 3 adjoining units - tied by a single pen-line & overstruck with a superb '7'-in-bars of 'WELLINGTON' (equally fine b/s), light 'PETRE' transit cds at upper-left, minor repair at top & a little soiled.
1940-41 1) commercial cover to France with boxed 'NOT TRANSMISSIBLE' & 'THIS ARTICLE WAS INTERCEPTED/...' h/s; 2) illustrated NZ Red Cross Society cover to Switzerland; & 3) airmail cover to NZ POW via London with Swiss POW h/s in red, franked with 5d Swordfish x4 & 8d Maori Council pair. A lovely trio. (Qty 3)
KERMADECS: 1940 (May 27) defective cover from Australia to Dunedin from where several times readdressed including to "Raoul Island" & "Nadi Fiji" finally being returned to Wellington. A pity about the faults.
