1867 entire town letter being a largely printed shareholders' notice for the Brisbane Gas Company with Chalons 1d vermilion tied by 'QL'-in-Rays cancel, superb b/s of the distinctive & rare Type 2 '67/MR2/ B /=BRISBANE=' cds, two vertical folds just clear of the stamp with associated soiling. [This is the example illustrated by Campbell at page 176, where Types 1 & 2 are transposed. At page 175, he states that the LRD is 2.2.1867, clearly an error for this item which is a month later]

[The letter, from merchants Webster & Co, complains about the cost of providing them with a gas pipe, and that details of how the estimated consumption has been arrived at have not been provided]

Very attractive. Ex Richard Stevenson: acquired at auction in 2003 for SFr2360. [Banana is 590km NW of Brisbane, inland from Bundaberg. The PO opened 1.9.1861. The town was named after a bullock called Banana. The fruit was introduced to northern Queensland from Fiji in the 1870s]
