1860 (Feb 3) mercantile entire with rare franking of Adelaide Printings 1d yellow-green SG 6 horizontal pair (margins in places but quite attractive; Cat £1300+ x2+ on cover), fine '100' cancel and 'MILANG' cds alongside, 'STRATHALBYN' arrival b/s in blue. [The stamps are not tied but, in our opinion, definitely belong to the cover]

1887 (Apr 5) local use of unstamped envelope with 'EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE DE PORT-ADELAIDE/ COMMISSION ROYALE DE BELGIQUE' imprint at top & light ministerial frank h/s in violet at L/L, superb 'BRUXELLES' cds & '13'-in-circle postman's h/s, light vertical fold barely detracts. Ex John Lancaster. The only such South Australian Exhibition item we have seen from an overseas Commission. The frank h/s apparently allowed for free mail. [The Adelaide Jubilee Exhibition opened 21.6.1887 & closed 7.1.1888. The envelope likely contained a prospectus and entry form. Belgium, after only Britain, won the second largest number of awards, well ahead of the USA, Germany & France]
1891 (Dec 22) usage of Austrian 5kr Envelope uprated with 1kt x5 - one on the reverse - & 5kr tied by 'MARBURG' cds, apparently overweight with 'T' h/s & "12½" in blue, to Adelaide but mis-sorted with very fine ' A /PENANG/ JA23/92' b/s & the earliest recorded usage by almost 10 years of the seriffed 'MISSENT/TO PENANG' h/s (Proud #I5) on the face, 'SHIP MAIL ROOM/FE23/92/ADELAIDE SA' arrival cds on the face where '___/MORE TO PAY'-in-oval applied & overstruck with separate '½D.' & '2D.' handstamps. An unusual & delightful cover.
1894 oversize cover (209x143mm) endorsed "On Public Service" addressed to "The President/International Post Philatelic Exhibition Committee/Milan/Italy" with 'OS' Overprints 2d SG O55 and 1/- SG O30 tied by 'REGISTERED ADELAIDE/AP21/94/SA' squared circle, 'R' in oval cachet and 'CORRESPONDENCE OFFICE/GPO' cds in violet alongside, 'MILANO/20/5-94' arrival b/s, central fold not affecting stamps, seal cut from back and a few aging marks. [Presumably used to send South Australian display material to the Exhibition]
