Postal Notes 1891 Second Issue 1/- to 5/- plus 15/- & £1 printed three values to a page (the final page is one-third blank) perforated at left, all numbered '00001' & overprinted 'SPECIMEN' in red, each page with imprint 'DESIGNED BY GWENDOLINE TODD' (daughter of the then PMG) at top, a couple of minor insignificant blemishes hardly detract from this remarkable reference set. Removed from Report of the Proceedings of the Australasian Postal & Telegraphic Conference (1891): missing the fourth page with the 7/6d & 10/- and probably a 12/6d value. [The 7/6d & 10/- were sold as a pair at another Melbourne auction for $1610 earlier this year. Soapbox time: Despite what Higgins & Gage, the FIP and anybody else says, Postal Notes and Money Orders are NOT Postal Stationery items. The expressed value contained no postage component. They are properly designated as "revenue stamped paper", by reference to the issuing fee or poundage being printed at lower-left]
