Unused selection comprising 1892-93 'TONGA REGISTRATION/[arms]/FOURPENCE.' 4d Without Printing Date HG C4 & C5 (just a sub-type of C4) and With Printing Date '1-1-93' under the Flap HG C6, 4d on Buff Stock size G with Printing Date '1-4-93' under the Flap HG C7 (superb), 4d on Buff Stock size H2 with Printing Date '1 APRIL '93' under the Flap HG C8, 3d with Redrawn Arms on the Flap size G HG C16 (flap stuck), 3d red with 'TONGA' now in Bold Seriffed Type & embossed Waterlow & Sons Imprint under the Flap HG C20 (superb), a few minor problems but generally fine to very fine. 1892-93 'TONGA REGISTRATION/[arms]/FOURPENCE.' 4d With Printing Date '1-1-93' under the Flap HG C6, apparently commercial usage to Germany in 1900 with 2½d tied to the face by fair 'NUKUALOFA' cds, 'REGISTERED/AUCKLAND' transit b/s, minor blemishes. [A similar example to Sydney sold for $690 at a recent Melbourne auction]
1901 'TONGA REGISTRATION/[arms]/FOURPENCE.' 4d on Off-White Stock size G with Wilson & Horton Imprint & Printing Date '1-3-01' under the Flap HG C9, philatelic usage to Austria in 1906, oval 'REGISTERED AT/NUKUALOFA, TONGA' h/s in violet on the face, Auckland transit & Karlsbad arrival b/s, the adhesives carefully removed otherwise superb.
1901 'TONGA REGISTRATION/4d [arms] 4d' '3 3' on 4d on Buff Stock size H2 with Wilson & Horton Imprint & Printing Date '1 MARCH 01' under the Flap HG C13, official usage to Netherlands Indies (!) in 1912 with 'TONGA GOVERNMENT/FRANK' h/s & small oval 'REGISTERED AT/NUKUALOFA, TONGA' h/s on the face, 'SOERABAJA' arrival b/s, flap fault well clear of the embossing and overprint (which appears to have been done with a "numerator"). An important and rare provisional issue. [The vendor paid £850]
1909 'R/THREE/PENCE'-in-Oval 3d with Redrawn Arms on the Flap size G HG C16, to Germany via Seattle (b/s) in 1911 with 2d tied to the face by Nukualofa cds, small oval 'REGISTERED AT/NUKUALOFA, TONGA' h/s, double-circle 'U.S.SEA POST/REG' transit b/s in purple, American 'REGISTERED' h/s in violet. Rare.
1909-(?) 'R/THREE/PENCE'-in-Double-Oval 3d on Bluish Paper with Flap at the Top HG C19, early usage in year of issue to Germany via Seattle (b/s) in 1920, Salote 2d tied by Nukualofa cds, faint oval registration h/s, German '140' postman's handstamp in blue on the face, good colour, very minor blemishes.
1909-(?) 'R/THREE/PENCE'-in-Double-Oval 3d blue HG C21, used to England with ½d 1d & 2½d tied by Nukualofa cds of 26FE35, blue/black 'NUKUALOFA, TONGA' registration label, wax seal on the flap impressed with 19th Century 'TONGA/[crown]/F.I.' (Friendly Islands) mailbag seal, fault at lower-left and some toning. Rare: the first example we have seen (we didn't even realise there was a printing in blue!)
