Early issues with an attractive 1847 5c, 1851 10c, 1857 5c, 1861 to 30c, 1867 with Grill to 12c & 15c, 1869 Pictorials to 90c, 1870-71 to 90c (no 24c), 1873 to 90c, 1879 to 90c, 1888 to 90c, 1890-93 to 90c, etc, condition rather mixed but many are sound to very fine, Cat US$18,000+ if all are correctly identified.
1857-1920s old-time collection mostly used including 1857 1c x2 and 10c, 1873 3c Jackson with Victorian '15/V' Butterfly arrival cancel !, Columbus to 50c x2, 1895 First Bureau $1 Type I & Type II, Pan-American Expo 1c and 2c with faked Inverted Centres (!), various Special Delivery, Official Seals, 1913 Parcel Post & Parcel Post Postage Due sets, some 1870s Officials noted 6c Justice, 1898 'IR' overprints noted 1c with Broken 'I', etc, condition quite mixed but many fine.
Accumulation in two cartons from 1880s to modern in 10+ albums including overprints, M/Ss, Plate Numbers, Imperfs, Coils & Experimental Perfs, Pre-Cancels, Revenues, etc, noted 1893 Columbus 50c used, 1900s Commeratives sets, 1935 National Parks set imperf Plate Number blocks of 6 (*), etc, also quantity of low values with postmark interest, a few FDCs and other covers, condition quite mixed but many fine.
1893-1953 Collectionmostly mint with Columbus to 50c - mostly without gum - plus VFU $2, 1894 4c & 8c (apparently **), 1895 8c 15c & 50c plus used $1 both types & $5, Trans-Mississippi used 50c & $1, Pan-American set, 1902-03 most values to 30c, 1912-14 $1, 1922-25 Pictorials plus Perf 10 values, 'Kans.' & 'Nebr' Overprints, later issues largely complete (high value Prexies are used), also Airs 1918 & 1923 sets, 50c 'Baby Zeppelin' (**), etc, condition rather mixed, Cat US$11,000+.
1923 Airs 8c & 16c, "Prexie" $5 & White Plains M/S (all corners intact), unmounted, Cat $US875.
OFFICIALS - PLATE PROOFS ON CARD: Newspaper Stamps 24 values to $60 violet; Interior Department eight values in vermilion to 30c, Agriculture Department nine values in yellow to 30c, War Department six values to 24c, and State Department fifteen values to $20. Very attractive lot.
POST OFFICE IN SHANGHAI: 1919 Surcharges '$2' on $1 brown-purple with Surcharge Double Scott #K16a (SG 16a), 'US POS SERVICE SHANGHAI/ DEC23/CHINA' cancel, Cat $US8500 (£7500). Ex John Wesley Thomas: sold for $US9775. Philatelic Foundation Certificate (1985). [NB: Scott prices this stamp at $US8500 mint, despite it being well recognised that it is much scarcer in used condition. This is reflected by Gibbons which prices SG 16a used at £1000 more than mint]
